Yu Yu Hakusho

Yu Yu Hakusho is one of those shows isn't all that great, but the fandom (used to be) spectacular. The series is about Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage deliquent, who dies and comes back to life as a spirit detective (also called Reikai Tantei. Reikai=Spirit Relm, Tantei=Investigator/Detective). His life long nemesis, Kazuma Kuwabara, becomes his right hand man.

Shortly after the series begins, he arrests two demons who have stollen artifacts from his boss, Koenma (like a mini-god of the bureaucratic side of death), named Kurama and Hiei. The two are sent to join Yusuke as punishment.

Kurama lives a double life as the picture perfect human, Shuichi Minamino, but really he's the reincarnation of the infamous Yoko, a fox spirit whose skill for theft is unrivalled. Later in the series his kitsune (fox) name becomes Kurama and his species is yoko, but in the earlier parts of the series Yoko is his kitsune name, Kurama is his alias, and Shuichi is his human name. In my fanfics and pretty much everywhere else, Yoko is the kitsune name, not species. Why? Because Yoko is a name. *cough* Albeit a woman's name, but a name none the less.

Hiei is part fire demon, part ice demon. For some reason, though, he only seems to display fire demon abilities. Maybe all the ice demon went to his sister, Yukina. As much as fandom makes him out to be emotionless and cold, he isn't. He's just really nasty to people. So I guess he is cold. >.> But just like Heero from Gundam Wing, he isn't a brick wall like most writers like to think he is. He does talk, sparingly, and I've only heard him grunt once.

As a warning, if you've read thus far (and if not, HA!), I love Hiei=Kurama, so the majority of the links, all the fics, and a lot of pictures are of the two. As a couple. ^_^
