About Gundam Wing

Gundam Wing is the story of five young mecha pilots. I'm sure from the word mecha most of you have a pretty clear idea what the rest of the story is about. War. And self-destructing-without-actually-dying-though-no-mortal-could-lose-that-much- ketchupblood-and-live. ^_^ Yeah, that sums up about the whole 49 episodes. Well, minus the psychotic bad guys who aren't actually the bad guys and the random guilt trips. And the pairings that could or could not be there. O.o the most popular of which would be obvious, but even the less popular ones have some grounding.

But as I said, there are five pilots. Let us look at them more in depth. (I may just make bio pages for them. Like I said, my crack)

Heero Yuy - Pilot of Gundam 01 or Wing and later Wing Zero. Obviously he's the "main character" since, his gundam is what the series is named after, right? Well, not really. >.> I think it's named after him just because he's number one.

Heero is one of those characters that will give you a headache if you try and understand him. In Fandom, he's usually really quiet and emotionless, which isn't exactly true in the anime, it's more that his emotions all seem to consist of some form of glare and very few words. But he does talk. A lot more than most people give hime credit for.

Heero is the Japanese pilot, somewhere between 15 and 16 as a gerneral concensus. I don't know that they ever actually give them an exact age, just things like 'they're only kids' and such. The entire series has him in a green tanktop and black-ish spandex shorts. Yes, spandex. And No one knows where he keeps the gun he always ends up whipping out, but that is also a topic of much fan pondering. I mean, you would think there would be bulge or something. >.>

Another thing is his pain tollerance. The guy can set his own leg without anethesia, which is creepy. Also, the copious amounts of ketchup blood I spoke earlier was Heero. As was self destructing. I think he tries four or five times in the series, and always manages to live. I never really counted.

Heero's female counterpart is Relena. I think she should be shot, a task Heero threatens to do several times and never does. Pity. She's obnoxious, closed minded, boor-headed, and ignorant. Yes, I do hate her. But her hold on Heero is just as legitimate as any of the pilots.

Duo Maxwell - Pilot of Gundam 02 or Deathscythe/Shinagami and later Deathscythe Hell. He is kick ass. And obnoxious. Adore him. XD He has a braid that, depending on which episode your watching, hangs to either his waist or his thighs. How he manages to sneak around with that much hair to be grabbed, no one knows. It is the subject of much ficcage, though.

Duo is the computer genius and idiot of the five. God of death, braided idiot, it's all synonymous in this series. Except 'idiot' seems to be a term he aquired in fandom only. Not that he doesn't act it in the series, just that I don't remember him being called that as much as some writers would have you believe.

He usually wears something that looks like a priest's suit: all black, weird white thing on the neck, apparently a cross you never see...and a bandaid on his nose. He does tend to talk more than anyone else in the series, and he has a kind of friendly attitude. He also gets caught by the bad guys on a regular basis. He's American, though, like all of the pilots, he was actually born and 'raised' on one of the colonies. L2, to be specific. He was/is an orphan with quite the loved story from the manga Episode Zero.

Duo's female counterpart is named Hilde, and I have very hard time seeing her as anything romantic. She's sweet, and a great character, but he treats her like a little sister, and she acts like one. that's not to say she's weak or anything, because she isn't. She's just as able and ready to fight as any of the other girls except Relena.

Trowa Barton - Pilot of Gundam 03 or Heavyarms. I don't remember what his updated gundam was called. He's the silent one with ungodly bangs. He also loves animals, like cute and cuddly lions. ^_^ Yeah, lions. They love him, too, but not as food. After Heero, all the bad shit happens to him. (Not true)

But he does get blown up, which is something I think only Heero can claim other than him. Except Heero does it to himself (Duo tried, but failed) and Trowa got blown up by Quatre. That was...interesting. He travels on-again-off-again with a circus and does the lion thing as well as lets a chick throw daggers at him.

Trowa's female counterpart is the knife weilding circus performer, Cathy. Me and several people agree that this would just be plain incest. Not that they share blood (though really...) but for all that Duo acts like Hilde's big brother, Cathy acts like Trowa's big sister. Even down to threatening to beat up Quatre for no real reason. She had a reason later, but at first she didn't, beyond just hating him for being a Gundam pilot. Some could argue that she was jealous, I guess. I mean, Quatre is just...we'll get to that. Cathy has all the ligitmate hold possible, but...I mean, they even look like they could be related.

Trowa is European, but he is also an orphan. He was raised a mercinary, if I remember right. Very silent, scary bang (yeah, just one), love turtlenecks, for reasons unknown, and is truly the most emotionless character in the show. I think he might have started to crack a smile once. Started.

Quatre Rabarba Winner - Pilot of Gundam 04 or Sandrock. Don't remember it's updated name, either. I don't think it had one, an update, I mean. For some reason, Sandy is a very common nickname for it. O.o If his middle name doesn't frighten you...yeah. He's the sweet, not really a fighter guy. Kind of...stereotypically gay. Which would explain why he's the only Gundam Pilot without an obvious female counterpart.

Quatre is Arabic, but has blonde hair, aquamarine eyes, and pale (VERY pale) skin. Which makes very little sense, except that he was born and raised on a colony. His daddy is a rich man and he has..39 sisters? I don't remember the exact number. He's the only son. Maybe this accounts for his acute femininity. Beyond the fact that he always wears a salmon shirt with khaki pants and a weird green vest, he's very sensitive. As in he cries over everything. And takes pity on anybody that asks. For goodness sake, he tries to talk the enemy down before going into battle.

Quatre has no female counterpart. Well, that's not entirely true, he has one sister who shows up for two episodes and dies pointlessly while they tried to stop his father from blowing himself up. But she is blood and it really would be incest. Not to mention necrophilia.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Quatre. He's sweet and cute and just a puddle of love. But he's definitely not the best person to put in a war. Or a Zero System.

Wu Fei Chang (More commonly Chang Wufei) - Pilot of Gundam 05 or Shenlong/Nataku. WHY he named it that, we don't know. Apparently he named it after his dead wife, who's name was Meiran. Yeah. That makes sense. >.> He's a bastard and I love him. ^_^ Very disturbing code of ethics, mainly because they're so staunch and old fashioned. And twisted.

Wu Fei is Chinese, from a very old clan living on one of the colonies. He won't fight women, because they are weak. He won't listen to them, either. He loses one fight and convinces himself he's not good enought to pilot Shenlong anymore, even though he didn't lose so much as surrender so that the colonies wouldn't be blown up. And he was told to stop, so he was still following orders. Like I said, very odd ethics.

After Trowa (or maybe even before), Wu Fei is the least emotional. He does have one emotion, disdain, which he exudes in everything. He's also a master at swords, though Treize beat him, and always carries around a katana. He also knows really cool traditional things, like karate and breathing control. Of course, Heero knows it, too, but apparently Duo doesn't. >.>

Wufei's female counterpart is Sally Po. She's very good at whipping him verbally. I've never read the story of Meiran, but I envision her as a bossier Sally Po. She deflates his ego and beats him into fighting again. A bit of a ball buster, but just what a guy like him needs.

The most common pairings for this series are Heero/Duo, Heero/Relena and Quatre/Trowa. The truth of the matter is, the series is written in such a way that any of the pilots could be paired with any of the other pilots, a few bad guys, and - with the exception of Quatre - a female character. And could have canon "proof".
