Insects chirp softly, hidden in the tall, waving grasses of the savannah. The only light comes from the stars scattered like diamonds across the skies. There is no moon tonight.
Spooked by a sudden noise, you drop your flashlight. You bend down to pick it up. As you rise, the hairs on the back of your neck stand at attention. You get that spooky feeling that you are being watched. Tiny pin-pricks of light ignite in pairs near you, revealing themselves to be eyes. You are surrounded.
After a moment, you come to your wits and turn on your flashlight. The strange creature in front of you winces away from the bright light, and looks up at you. Her fur is soft and short, with beautiful coloration that you can just barely see in the shadows. Her brightly colored wings are pressed tightly to her back in agitation. "You are not welcome here human! Nor are any of your kind! Begone!"
Your flashlight sputters out for an instant and when you look back, they have all vanished. You take one last look around and then reluctantly turn back the way you came. |
