Begun on the 14th of October 2001, 8 of its members (Sirs Alex Establecida, Glenn Canizares, Michael Angeles, Marvin Acuesta, Enrico Condino, Raymond Quesea, Irwyn Indrinal & Earnie Vargas) took the very 1st step towards the summit of Mt. Arayat in Pampanga. During that time, all members are still on their college years. It was the lazy semestral break that took everyone to spend an unforgetable vacation.

The 8 Founding members were classmates ever since kindergarteen. Time goes by and they still share almost the same apartment. A total of 14 years of friendship was the solid foundation that took them to the edge!

The group name "AKAMUG" was agreed upon by members during an informal meeting. The name "AKAMUG" was the reversed spelling of their home town "GUMACA" or "ACAMUG".

However the original name of the town of GUMACA was "BUMAKA" (to fight) later became known as "GUMAKA" (Gumawa ka) in tagalog (work hard).

Therefore, with the consent of everyone, the group name was officially known as "AKAMUG ". Defining a group of young hard working adventurers originating from their home town, Gumaca, Quezon.

After a year, New members were accepted, Sirs DjXpact, Meong, Jay all share the same AKAMUG principles and ethics. Sirs Archie, Timmy, Leo soon joined the group.

Sir DjXpact from Bulacan, Sir Meong from Pangasinan, Sir Arjay from Pamapanga. Sir Leo, ARchi and timmy from Gumaca. The common passion for adventure. The laughs. The nonesense stories. The tasteless food on trail. And the great appreciation of Nature bound the group together. It was the "AKAMUG ADVENTURE" as they always say.

Akamug is Not an ordinary group. For they are bounded by untamed principles. Not ideal. But somehow even if there were only 2 akamugs sharing a moldy bread on top of some mountain...its was one hell of an adventure!

The first website was created in late September 2002 by Sir McMike (www.geocities.com/akamug), from there the popularity of AKAMUG has grown in the next 5 years until the creation of this website. Many applicants had applied but none were accepted due to unvailability of manpower and time to educate those who will join the group. However, Guideship climbs are often the most convinient way to support fresh mountaineers.

Soon everyone graduated from their respective fields and begun working on different places. There were difficulties in schedules but whenever there were holidays many of the members still manage to cope up and continue the journeys.

Today, AKAMUG, had managed to survive years of unforgiven challenges. Adapted itself to the ever changing fortunes of time. As the members begun to journey into their respective careers, everyone feels that AKAMUG should'nt be left alone, the journey shall continue!

Sir Djxpact, Sir Alex, Sir Romeo , Sir Timmy and Sir Michael felt the need to rise up to the challenge to continue moving forward. A new Akamug Team arises from the solid foundations of friendship and camaraderie. Sir Michael Angeles (One of Akamug's Founding member) took the leadership until today to continue the Journey of Akamug and Pass on to New generations.

Team Akamug is a small dedicated mountaineers aiming to build and uphold mountaineering as one of the best way to experience and see the beauty of Nature. It's true that when we see a thing of Beauty..we desire it to be a Joy Forever..

The launching of its new web site (www.akamug.com) featuring a comprehensive Philippine Mountaineering Forums & Pinoy Mountains WIKI in 2007 aims to unite all Filipino Mountaineers around the world so the everyone will know that Pinoy Mountaineers shall continue the Journeys to the EDGE!
