What is ADD? Attention Deficit Disorder is a problem that tends to run in families. Characteristics that most AD/HD people have are: *Distractibility *Impulsiveness *Moodiness *Inattention *Easily Bored *Irritability These are just the most common. There are other symptoms/characteristics. Most of these are noticed when children are young; before the age of seven. There are four subtypes I am only posting the most common two here. ADHD, with hyperactivity and ADD, without hyperactivity. Our featured article describes the other two. ADHD people are in continuous motion, as if driven by a motor. They have trouble sitting still, are more impulsive and generally have more outbursts than ADD people. ADD is harder to diagnose. These people are generally withdrawn or daydream (spacey) a lot, do poorly in school, and may show signs of excessive shyness or anxiety. AD/HD can coexist with learning disabilities. Research shows that 1/4 to 1/2 of the people diagnosed with AD/HD also have some learning disability. This is just basic information about AD/HD. If this sounds like you, or your child, you should see a mental health professional for an evaluation. . |
