Personalities:

I tried as hard as I could to keep the original characters as close to their personalities from the game as possible and I hope that I've been successful.

The two people who were the hardest to write for were mainly Vincent and Sephiroth, Vincent is a sort of tortured soul character, it was hard to get inside the head of someone like that. It was also hard to express his feelings towards Lucrecia, there wasn't much indication of exactly what he felt for her in the game apart from love, so I had to make it up. I decided to have them slightly in the flirting stage where they left off in when Vincent got shot. Although Lucrecia is quite old, Vincent reminds her of her happy times. Seeing as Vincent is one of my favourite characters I added him quite a lot, which meant I got to develop him more than the others. Overall I wrote Vincent as a very serious character who expresses himself in emotionless short sentences. I also had him getting annoyed with people like Reno and Yuffie, he sees himself as someone who understands life better than childish people like them.

Sephiroth, he was probably just as hard, he's insane, which is particularly hard for me to understand as I personally haven't gone insane (strange that isn't it?). He's also been to hell and back which not many people do (apart from maybe Cid but we'll have to wait to find out about that!) also I had to write about how Liol would respond to and eventually join sides with Sephiroth.  Sephiroth has a great hatred for Cloud and that was another point I had to get across well, I thought a fitting revenge was for Sephiroth to make Liol turn against his father.

Many other characters were hard to write for; but those two were the hardest, anyway I'm not going to bore you with the struggles I've had in writing "Insurrection" lets get on:

Cloud and Tifa: Two Kids?

Yes, I know it was a large step to take for the two characters, especially considering they had by no means determined what they planned for the future, or even if they would be romantically involved at the end of FFVII, but I thought it was the way to go.

The whole beginning plan for "Insurrection" started with the prologue which concerned Liol being possessed by the spirit of Sephiroth, and one of the main themes in "Insurrection" is how Cloud comes to terms with Liol's possession and how it effects his marriage with Tifa, without that the story wouldn't be possible. The inclusion of the three year old Cherrie was for a slightly different reason, if Liol was lost forever, Tifa and Cloud felt they should stay together for her sake.

Vincent and Yuffie: Turks?

Although I may be slightly biased when concerning the Turks (Who I love by the way!) that wasn't entirely the reason why I made my two favourite characters Turks, I added them to the roster for many reasons, these are some of them:

It gave me an excuse to include the Turks more in the story,
It meant AVALANCHE had to work with the Turks,
I like the contrasting character's of Yuffie and Vincent, this gave the opportunity for them to interact more,

Well, those are just some of the reasons why I chose them to be Turks, to be honest though the main reason was that I wanted my two favourite characters in the Turks, simple as that.

Individual Parts Notes

Prologue:

Not really much to say about this chapter, just that I started it one day without realising it would become a proper story and that I decided that the beginning part of the story should start in Rocket Town. I like the overwhelming power that Sephiroth has over Tifa and Cloud now, he seems far more scary than before.

Chapter 1: I'm Dying Tommorow

A very short chapter this one, I had a little fun with this chapter; showing how Reno annoys Vincent and also Yuffie is slightly iritating. Also the scene with Red XIII and BugenHagen was sort of inspired by Star Wars where Obi-Wan talks to Luke about stuff, you may have noticed a resemblance. I like the desperation insie Tifa during this chapter as she realises she may have failed as a mother.

Chapter 2: Everything Has It's Point

This chapter's about a page longer than the last, it's called Everything Has It's Point. Reeve features in this chapter slightly, where he thinks about the past five years, this acted as a way of telling the reader how the Turks was reformed. I know it seemed like a rash thing to do to kill Cid off, but I promise it won't be the end for one of my and probably everyone else's favourite characters.

Chapter 3: Rendezvous

My largest so far, Rendezvous mainly concerns Cloud's fears of the future and the first meeting of Kole, Kole is a new character to the team, but he won't be a permanent fixture, otherwise the story would get flooded with characters. Kole is quite a cool character who has had a few " upgrades " since birth. I thought it was a good idea to have him shouting commands at the computer to activate his guns and the like. In that scene I added a little something about only electricity can kill the possessed, just thought they needed a weakness, otherwise they might be slightly too powerful. This chapter also gives a brief introduction to Galen, who definitely has something mysterious about herself. Another new character Cherrie (Cloud's daughter) appears, only briefly though.

Chapter 4: A Death in the Family

Although quite a short chapter, I feel this has some defining moments of the story; the group finding out their friend is dead, the realisation that Shera is pregnant, the fact Rufus never died and the return of Red XIII. I thought the part with Dark Nation was a nice revelation which included a bit of puzzlement, why had't Rufus and Dark Nation died? I also added a bit about Rufus being linked to Dark Nation, I felt this added a bit of futuristic stuff to the story. I also liked the end of the chapter where Rufus, Galen and Sephiroth all say " From here on in, things can only get better. " which is slightly ironic as the next chapter things go from bad to worse.

Chapter 5: Desperate Times

A marathon in terms of my last chapters, but probably the most exciting chapter yet. Red XIII returns, Barrett gets (almost) completely drunk, Lucrecia drops from the Turks, Red XIII (partially) explains the Insurrection and the group (and everyone else) leaves Rocket Town. I really love this chapter, especially the Barrett scene, which I felt was probably the most well written piece so far. I also like how Elena developed in this chapter, tending to light cigarettes when the group is in trouble and at last we get a full on action scene! I'm sorry it's been a long time coming but I felt it was worth waiting for (well almost!).

Chapter 6: She Spreads Her Wings

Not quite finished, but I can write a little (seeing as I know what's gonna be in it!) The title is rather different to my others, mainly because it's a song title (a Semisonic song.), I thought it was relevant to Galen's role in this chapter. I'm again quite proud of this chapter so far, I particulary like the part with Elena, Reno, Yuffie and Vincent. Reno telling Elena to give up the cigarettes, Reno and Yuffie concerning the " I wasn't joking " thing (Was he joking? You'll just have to wait and see!) and finally the Yuffie / Vincent thing, will they get it together? Maybe, but I'm not telling yet, maybe I was teasing you. Also the Kole and Shera scene, does he remind her of Cid? Probably, but I added that scene to create a sense of friendship between the two, otherwise I felt Shera doesn't have enough friends she can talk to, I thought she might get left out.
Galen figures highly in this, mainly because her scenes before have been VERY short, I wanted to develop her more mainly because she is very important to the story. Did any of you spot the BLATANT inclusion of a particular flower girl, if you hadn't you must have been half asleep, is she Aeris? I haven't decided yet (maybe I was teasing you again.) but if she is you'll find out in the next book (If there is one). The part where Galen falls to sleep and her wings grow was inspired by a story I read once, nevertheless I thought it was quite good even if it did give slightly more away than I intended.

A Prequel / Sequel?

Yeah, I know I'm thinking a little bit ahead, but what's wrong with that? I've definately got a short prequel in the pipeline but if people wanted it I would definately consider writing a sequel, I might write one anyway, but I would get a lot more encouragement if people would like me to write it. So what do you think shall I do a sequel?
Please e-mail me at yuffiekisargi@hotmail.com and tell me what you think, any suggestions will be greatly received.
