Prologue
Don't leave me all alone,
Just drop me off at home,
I'll be fine, it's not the first,
Just like last time,
But a little worse.

Cloud watched as the bounds of light-green energy flew across the sky,
it was the lifestream, or so it seemed. Holy had come but had proved worthless,
meteor had been too powerful; it was all over, Sephiroth had succeeded.
But then, the streaks of green light appeared as if from nowhere, Cloud
knew instantly, it was Aeris.
Meteor crumbled under the lifestream’s grip, falling apart and in some
cases disintegrating, it was over.
Cloud breathed a sigh of relief. But it wasn’t over for the hundreds of people from Midgar; the process had destroyed almost everything in the city. As Cid swooped down with the Highwind Cloud saw the devastation left by the meteor; most buildings had been completely ruined and only the recognisable landmark was the ShinRa Headquarters. Tifa lay her head on Cloud’s shoulder and uttered the first words anyone had spoken since the lifestream appeared.
“ Let’s go home.”
“ What home?” Asked Cloud. “ Midgar is ruined, Nibelheim is deserted. What other home do we have left?”
“ A new one.” The words were so simple yet had so much meaning; they needed a new start, a new life.
“ Okay,” Said Cloud, reaching to hug Tifa. “ Let’s go home.”
The loud shouting of a certain airplane pilot interrupted the embrace
before it could really begin.
“ Where to then?” Asked Cid.
Cloud released Tifa from his grips and looked around the ship. “ Well? Red?”
“ Cosmo Canyon.” He roared back. “ It is my home, I wish to return.”
Cloud nodded. “ Yuffie?”
“ Wutai, I want to make it up to my father again.”
“ Sure. Barret?”
“ Corel, I think that my hometown will need me from now on, it needs to be rebuilt.”
Again Cloud nodded in acknowledgement. “ Vincent, do you have any plans?”
“ None.” He replied, “Drop me off wherever you wish.”
“ Cait.” Started Cloud. “ Where does Reeve want you dropped off?”
“ Reeve’s current position is Kalm Town, I would expect him to want me dropped off there.”
“ Great.” Sighed Cloud. “ Before we all leave for home I’d just like to say a few words. I know you all want to get back but I’d like to thank you, all of you. You’ve all supported me through the worst; some more than others, but you have all helped me at one point or another. Your reward? Life, we have won, beaten what was put against us and now we get to live. So do just that. Live.”
As Cloud’s speech finished, the dark sheet that had covered the sky disappeared only to leave the bright blue sky that had always been there. Everyone turned around and gazed at the sky and Cloud uttered a final few words.
“ We’ve the whole future ahead of us.”
