Moving My Kisses
Posted Friday, December 21, 2001, 07:20:05 AM by Doug Davis

I've always been curious about one thing Christopher does. When I give him kisses while putting him to bed, if they are not on his right cheek, he takes his hand and "moves" the kiss from wherever it was to his right cheek. I know he likes to sleep on his left side, facing the wall so he doesn't have to look at the smoke detector. So that was a clue. Last night I asked him why he moves my kisses and he said, "Because I like to lay this way (on his left cheek) and I don't want the kiss to get stuck to the pillow". After a pause he says, "If it get's stuck to my hand, that's okay. I just don't want to lose the kiss."

What Tool?
Posted Saturday, December 08, 2001, 09:00:00 PM by Doug Davis

Age: 5 years, 0 months, 21 days

We went to a Christmas party where they had decorated their front lawn with the lights under the bottoms of milk jugs. Christopher began talking about how hard it would be to cut a milk jug like that. I told him he just needed the right tool. He thought a second and said, "The right tool...like a plunger!".

Playing Uno
Posted Tuesday, December 04, 2001, 11:54:48 AM by Doug Davis

Age: 5 years, 0 months, 15 days

We enjoy playing the game Uno as a family. Until last night, Christopher would team up with me or Mommy to play. He's been donig a good job so last night we let him play a hand by himself. He did such a good job for a game rated for 7 and up. He picked good cards and had a cute "intense" look on his face when studying the cards. Pretty fun.

CHRISTOPHER'S 5TH BIRTHDAY
Posted Tuesday, November 20, 2001, 11:29:26 AM by Doug Davis

Today is Christopher's 5th birthday. We had his party last Saturday, but we saved family gifts for today. Let him open them this morning before I went to work. Now he'll be able to play all day. He now has quite a collection of Rescue Hero toys and he's thoroughly enjoying them all.

A cold front came through yesterday, so it was in the 30's this morning when we got up. It will be in the 50's the next couple of days, but it's supposed to be in the 60's for Thanksgiving. Beautiful weather. I like it a little chilly. Last night we had our first fire of the season and the kids enjoyed roasting marshmallows.

5th Birthday Party

age: 4 years, 11 months, 28 days

We held Christopher's 5th birthday party today. The weather was beautiful. High in the 70's, partly sunny and a nice breeze. We had it in the park, decorating the pavillion with balloons. Many of Christopher's friends came and they decorated Rescue Hero vests, wore firefighter helmets, had some games and played in the park. Tina made a wonderful cake that Christopher designed. It's an large oil tank which burst into flames when hit by a truck. A rescue hero figure is there to put out the frosting flames. We also all ate pizza. It was a lot of fun!

Tomorrow is Christopher's birthday party. Hopefully it won't rain. We're planning to have it at a nearby park with a "Rescue Heros" theme.

Christopher and Granddad

Grandma and Granddad are visiting now. Christopher was playing with Granddad today and at one point accidentally called him "daddy". He stopped for a second and then said "I'll call you that for short"

Made Up Prayers
Posted Tuesday, October 23, 2001, 08:16:20 AM by Doug Davis
Christopher is saying more made up prayers all the time. And they usually turn out pretty nice. Last night he prayed for his enemies telling God that he "liked" his enemies like God "likes" them. He's obviously learning lessons about loving his enemy. We've been talking some to the kids about the war in Afghanistan and so the subject of enemies comes up.

Christopher and Santa
Posted Monday, October 22, 2001, 08:08:23 AM by Doug Davis

Christopher's Age: 4 years, 11 months, 2 days

A couple of weeks ago, Christopher asked Tina, "Is Santa real?" So Tina told him that since the real Santa died many years ago, Mommies and Daddies dress up as Santa.

Today they were driving by a house in our neighborhood where the chimney is being torn down and rebuilt. Christopher said, "What are they going to do? Santa won't be able to go down their chimney! The Mommies and Daddies won't be able to go down the chimney. I don't want our chimney to fall down. I want the mommies and daddies to be able to go down our chimney."

Old Toys - Height & Weight
Posted Monday, October 15, 2001, 01:15:21 PM by Doug Davis

Yesterday I found my old GI Joe and give it to Christopher. He reallly likes playing with "rescue hero" toys right now and he was very excited about the GI Joe. He played with it the rest of the day and slept with him last night.

I weighed and measured Christopher last night. He weighed 69.0 pounds and was 3' 9 7/8" tall. It looks like he's grown about 3.5 inches in the last year or so.

Giving Nature
Posted Monday, October 08, 2001, 12:26:34 PM by Doug Davis
Christopher has a very giving spirit. If he gets M&M's he'll save the yellow ones for Nicole, give Mom the green ones and the other day he even gave me his blue ones. Each according to our favorite colors. His favorite color is blue so I was surprised by his giving me the blue ones. Most of the time if he's given more than one treat or toy, he'll divide them amoung the family. It's really sweet.

Soccer Scores
Posted Saturday, October 06, 2001, 12:22:06 PM by Doug Davis
Today Christopher had a great soccer game. He scored two goals himself and, while we don't keep score, his team really got a lot of goals over the other team. I only saw them get one goal. This age is so fun to watch.

First Soccer Game
Posted Saturday, September 29, 2001, 05:00:00 PM by Doug Davis

Christopher kicking soccer ballToday was Christopher's first soccer game. It's a lot of fun to watch 4-year-olds play soccer. We call it "herd soccer". They did a pretty good job, though. Christopher scored one goal too! He still has a cold, so didn't have as much energy as normal, but he really gave it his all.

Soccer
Posted Friday, September 28, 2001, 07:50:00 AM by Doug Davis
Last night was Christopher's first soccer practice. I had to miss it because of a problem at work, but Tina told me his face beamed as he ran around the field. He has a bad cold and started coughing so badly during practice that he threw up. I think Tina might have mentioned something about slowing down a bit, but Christopher replied, "I'm supposed to run after the ball as hard as I can." And that's what he enjoyed doing.

Jesus In His Heart
Posted Wednesday, September 19, 2001, 09:00:00 PM by Doug Davis
Tonight Tina was praying with Christopher when he prayed on his own that God would help all the people who died in the big building (refering to the 9/11 terrorist attacks). That got the two talking about how if those people loved God they would go to heaven, but if not they'd go to hell and be separated from God. Christopher then wanted to pray and he prayed, "I want to be with Jesus".

Comfort in a Storm
Posted Wednesday, September 19, 2001, 10:33:46 AM by Doug Davis
Last night Tina and I had a meeting so we had a babysitter for the kids. A huge thunderstorm came through while we were out and the babysitter was putting the children to bed. When we came home, Nicole and Christopher were sleeping together in Christopher's bed. They were really cute and were very comforted to have each other. I think it was very sweet of Nicole to agree to this little sleepover. The storm ended and we moved Nicole to her own bed later, but I'm sure they slept much better through the storm together.
