Maron Henderson is your average child with long red hair and deep blue eyes.
She lived at 940 Primrose Way right here in our little town. She was an honest
child who loved to play with her best friends Joey Wheeler and Yugi Mutou. She
was about as normal as you can get. She had an older, pesky brother, Henry,
a sweet but annoying older sister, Emma, and of course a mother and a father.
They were so normal, that when something abnormal started, it was known throughout
the entire town.
"Mom! The eggs are going to burn!" eleven-year-old Maron Henderson
yelled from the kitchen. Mrs. Henderson came bustling down the stairs to greet
her whole family, who was staring at a pan of ashes. Emma, the eldest, had a
stern look on her face.
"Mom, I told you this was going to happen." Emma cried.
"Really, you should have asked me to cook the eggs. I would have made
them perfect and-"
"Delicious like I always do." Henry, the second eldest, added, imitating
Emma's crying voice.
"If it wasn't for me, I dunno how you would even be fed." Emma replied.
And with that she stormed out of the room, and upstairs to where she could watch
TV in peace and quiet without having her siblings to pester her.
"Well, she's not a very happy person, is she." Henry grunted.
Henry and Maron exchanged glances and began to snicker. Maron walked over to
the kitchen table and sat down on one of the chairs. She glanced quickly at
the morning mail, and pulled a TV Guide magazine towards her. She brushed through
the pages quickly, carefully checking out all the movies that would be on tonight;
Spider-man, Ace Ventura Pet Detective, and Star Wars. After skimming through
the magazine, a dulled yellow envelope caught her eye. "What's this?"
She pulled the envelope closer to her and tore at the edges until it gave way.
Three sheets of paper slipped out of the tiny yellow envelope, all with the
same handwriting. Maron picked up the top one.

Maron starred at the letter in amazement. What was the letter trying to get
at? Surly it was a prank of some kind. She had heard of duel monsters, pokemon,
and magic, but it was all too strange to be real. "What's this Mum?"
she questioned.
"It looks like some sort of acceptance form to some sort of school."
Mrs. Henderson peered down over Maron's shoulder. "By Jove! It's not just
any old acceptance form. You've been accepted to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft
and wizardry. Why I went there when I was a youngster of course. It's a rather
special place."
"But what's Diagon Alley? And is all this stuff real? And what about platform
two and a half? Surely there isn't such a thing." Maron had so many questions
she was overwhelmed.
"Oh sweetie. You'll see. Everything will turn out okay. All
Hogwarts students have to go to Diagon Alley to get their supplies. It's the
only place like it around here. I know exactly where it is too. Oh, I remember
all the fun times we had. Oh, and my friends and I used to.."
Mrs. Henderson kept rambling on about her experiences at Hogwarts, but Maron
started sifting through the mail to see if either Henry or Emma had gotten accepted.
There were no other envelopes in the pile however, and a deep spread of awe
made it's way across Maron's body.
"Mum, this school, am I the only one accepted into it?"
"Of course not dear! Henry is in his third year, and Emma is in her fifth
year. Haven't you noticed that they are never around during the year?"
Maron thought deeply about what her mother had just questioned. It was true
that Emma and Henry really hadn't been home during the year. Was it possible
that they too were already attending Hogwarts? Why hadn't Maron been notified?
"Mum, how come you never told me that Emma and Henry attended such a school
as this?"
"Oh sweets, that's because your father is not a wizard. We were afraid
that because he doesn't have wizard blood, that there would be a chance that
you wouldn't be a witch. You see? Everything Mrs.
Henderson said all seemed to fit in it's place. If Maron hadn't been accepted
into Hogwarts, but had known that Emma and Henry had, she would probably be
envious and it would take her a long time to understand. She was accepted and
it's still taking her a long time to understand.
Maron refolded the paper and stuck it in her pocket. "When will we go
to Diagon Alley, Mum?" she questioned.
"Tomorrow sounds good. Henry and Emma need to get their stuff as well.
Sweets, go outside and help your father with the wood. Be a good girl now."
But Maron was still full of questions, and she couldn't get over the fact the
she was going to learn how to duel, battle, and do magic tricks. Maybe life
wasn't so bad after all!
