As you may have guessed, my attitude towards Metallicunt has soured somewhat. As you may have also guessed, I was one of the 317,377 users that was banned from Napster at the order of Lar$ Ulrich. You can read more about this bullshit HERE. And why? Because I had MP3s on my computer that *I* made from my CDs. I own every fucking album they have except for "Live Shit", and I happen to like listening to music on my computer while I surf the Internet for naked cartoon girls being horribly violated by squirming tentacle monsters. Not only that, but for the past few months I've had my uploading disabled so that Napster wouldn't be slowed down by people attempting to access my horde of metal MP3s.

Why is Metallica doing this? The sell-out, buisness-suit-wearing, corporate asslickers claim it's because they don't want their "art" treated like property. Exactly what the fuck do they think they're doing when they sign up for however many record deals and contracts? To the record companies, Metallica is just the same as Eminem's cursing every other word or Brittney Spears and her tits; a commodity to be sold to the public. They don't give a fuck about Metallica's art, only that they get the money from their overpriced pieces of plastic. If Lar$, Hetfield or any of the others think differently, they're deluding themselves.

Metallica has tried to paint themselves as these great heroes of artist's rights, and maybe they even think they are. But castrating Napster is not going to do anyone any good except for them and the record companies. Hell, Napster is quite frankly *THE* best way to find out about new bands. Here's a short list of bands whose music I'd never have gotten into had it not been for Napster;

Admittedly, I'd heard of these bands before, either through my friends, M2, or somewhere else, but Napster let me download songs of theirs so that I could be sure. I wouldn't have bought their albums without hearing their songs first, and confirming they were cool. Even Alice Cooper, though hardly unknown to me, was still pretty vaguely known until I started downloading his songs. Because of Napster, though, I now own 4 Blind Guardian albums, both of Drain S.T.H.'s, "Hooray For Boobies", Alice Cooper's "Classicks", and that's only the beginning. Not to mention that Napster has given me a chance to hear old classics from my childhood (ahhh, the 80's) that otherwise I never would have bothered to buy, save perhaps on a compilation. But, I digress.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear; I am NOT one of those bandwagon-jumpers that start ranting about how "Metallica hasn't had a good song since the Black Album" and how I always thought they were "mediocre". The fact is, despite the fact that Metallica has completely and totally sold out to the same corporate machine they used to rage against (see "... And Justice For All", and marvel at the irony), I still enjoy their music. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" still sends shivers down my spine, and headbanging to "Sad But True" is still as fun as it was before I got banned from Napster because of Metallica's greed. Of course, I'm not about to start buying any future albums they may have. If my money is what they want, then it's my money they won't get. I think I would rather enjoy Helloween's "Better than Raw" or Blind Guardian's "Imaginations From the Other Side" than give $16 so that Metallica can have more money to pay their lawyers.

That's what I have to say on this whole mess. If you agree with me, then the links below may interest you. If not, tough shit. In the interst of fairness, here's what Metallcia has to say for themselves. It's 90% bullshit, but what do you expect?

ProNapster.com - Napster For All Time
A page devoted to saving Napster and stopping Metallica. Features include a petition you can sign, how to get unbanned from Napster, and a bunch of anti-Metallica sentiment. These are some of the people that're trying to say they've hated Metallica since the Black Album, but their hearts are in the right place.

Napster
The program that started this whole controversy, Napster may be in the corporate crosshairs but it's not slowing down in the least. You might not have the chance to use it for very long, so make the most of it.

PayLar$.Com
A site dedicated to the biggest dickhead in this mess; Lars Ulrich. Oddly enough, I can't tell if he's being serious or sarcastic ...

Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Pirated MP3s

Now, this IS sarcastic. "Remember; when you're downloading MP3s, you're downloading COMMUNISM!!!" is a little hard to take seriously ... well, unless you're living in the first half of the 20th century, in which case it's enough to have you banned from Hollywood.
