Hayla paced up and down the forest in her gym. She fell into her throne as a sigh cloud escaped her mouth. Her Hitmonlee was on a pillow next to her, meditating.
"Hitmonlee," Hayla sighed, "We haven't had a challenge in two months."
"Monlee." Hitmonlee responded.
"I know!" Hayla exclaimed, "I'll win badges and become the number one Pokemon master! Hitmonlee, gather some empty pokeballs and Geodude's pokeball. I'll transport my other Pokemon onto my P.C. box. Just let me pack a few things and we'll be off!"
"Okay. The force field will activate as soon as we step outside. This will make it impossible to find our gym while we're gone." Explained Hayla to Hitmonlee.
As soon as they stepped out, they heard a click, and the force field was activated.
"Hitmonlee, hold on to me tightly. The ice ring will transport us to Viridian City where we shall walk for the rest of our journey. I refuse to become a lazy trainer who relies only on teleportation."
With that a green flash came out of the ice ring, and they were in Viridian City. As soon as they arrived, they headed for Viridian Forest. As they walked along, they came across a Weedle. Hayla didn't even stop to observe it.
"Geodude, go!" Hayla cried, "Tackle it now!"
"Geo dude!" it yelled as it slammed into Weedle.
"Pokeball, go!" Hayla shouted as the ball left her hand. It incased Weedle, and with a "ping" it snapped shut.
"Pika Pi." Came a voice from the bushes. A Pikachu stepped out and soon found itself inside a pokeball. Hayla and Hitmonlee were about to celebrate, when another voice cut through.
"Hey! I'm a Pokemon trainer too! Wanna battle?"
The boy was about 14. He had a studded belt, skull-and-crossbones T-shirt, and a gray vest. His spiky hair resembled fire, and his eyes were dark blue.
"I'm Trent," he said, "come on let's battle!"
"Fine with me." Replied Hayla.
"Growlithe, go! Use Ember!" shouted Trent
"Hitmonlee, Mega Kick now!" yelled Hayla.
The Ember attack scorched Hitmonlee thoroughly, but Growlithe was no match for Mega Kick.
"Sweet." Trent said as he healed his Growlithe, "I'm from Viridian and just starting out, " Trent explained, "Mind if I come along with you?"
"Of course!" Hayla answered, "I'm going to Pewter City to earn a Boulder badge." "I saw you catch a Weedle," Trent began, " I have a huge stash of Rare Candy. If you want, I can get Weedle to evolve into a Beedrill."
"Would I ever!" Hayla exclaimed.
Trent produced 20 rare candies from his backpack, and gave them to Weedle. Soon it was a Beedrill with Twinneedle attack.
As they walked, Hayla added a Caterpie to her collection.
"I'd love a Butterfree!" Trent exclaimed, "Wanna trade for my Squirtle?"
Hayla didn't need to be asked twice. They traded and soon found themselves in Pewter City. They healed their Pokemon at the Pokemon Center. They then entered the Pewter Gym.
"I am Flint!" boomed a loud voice, "You receive a Boulder badge only if you can defeat me."
The match began. Flint called out Geodude, while Hayla used Squirtle. Geodude soon fainted after one water gun attack. With a scowl, Flint called it back knowing he could not win.
"Onyx, go!" he shouted.
One more water gun attack and the rock serpent was down for the count.
"Here is your Boulder badge." Flint grumbled.
Hayla immediately dropped it into a small pouch inside her bag. "Yes! A Boulder badge!" she shouted.
As Hayla, Trent, and Hitmonlee headed down the road, Hayla stumbled across a small jar. Its label read, "Take this Amber to a lab on Cinnabar Island. Give it to a scientist and he will resurrect it into a Pokemon." With Amber in her bag, the group headed down the road.
"Why didn't you battle Flint?" Hayla asked Trent.
"I just want to be a fire Pokemon trainer. I battle and collect for fun, not for badges." Trent replied
"On to Mt. Moon then," Hayla replied, "If all goes well, maybe I'll capture a Clefairy."
With that, they charged down the road, on to new adventures and Pokemon. Little did they know that they were headed for trouble.
