*** The engaging 12-episode 1st season of MEGAMI KOUHOSEI (The Candidate for Goddess) that made its first appearance in Japanese airwaves in January, 2000 is based on the manga of the same name by Yukiru Sugisaki that started its run late 1999 in Gum Comics of currently five volumes and still ongoing.
The GOA Freshman Candidate Handbook Congratulations Pilot Candidate! You have passed all the necessary requirements to become a Candidate for Goddess. Because of a fatal mistake, mankind was forced into the vastness of space, loosing one planet after another to mysterious alien life forms they named VICTIMS. The year is now 4084 A.D. Mankind must now protect the only planet left. The beautiful blue gem known as ZION. In the battle to protect ZION, failure is not an option. The war is now fought by five humanoid combat mechas called Ingrids, also fondly nicknamed by their protectorates as the Five Goddesses. For the next three years, you and your paired technician will undergo a series of strenuous studies and training. Only five will be chosen. As students of the Goddess Operator Academy, you are expected to read and follow all the procedures, rules, and regulations in this handbook. Misconduct will result in the demerit of points. 50 demerit points will result expulsion. Good luck and do your best candidates! Though each battle now is entrusted in the hands of their current pilot and technician. Remember that the battles for tomorrow are in your hands... The Candidates for Goddess. ********************************************************************* Zero Enna is a hyperactive and gifted but rather unsophisticated 15-year-old, who had dreamed of nothing else but to become one of the five pilots of the 5 Goddesses after being saved by the White Goddess during a Victim attack on his colony when he was a little boy. The main storyline chronicles the trials and tribulations he encounters as a Goddess Candidate in the company of his partner, Kizna Towryk, and his fellow candidates... both friends and rivals. Like many great science-fiction drama epics which contain conspiratory subplots, characters with dark and/or mysterious pasts, soap operatic character interactions... Megami Kouhosei is not an exception, despite of the abruptness of how the season ended. And the 1st season of the anime omitted or varied a number of scenes and subplots from the manga, the 12 episodes still continued to promise its viewers to expect a lot more questions to be asked and answers to be told on the following seasons. continued...
