A Final Farewell for A New Beginning

Yes, you read the cover title right. This will be the last issue of P.Otaku Bytes so those few readers that I actually have, thanks for a great year. Now your questions might be why I would end the fanzine. Well, here are the answers:

  1. I haven't been able to meet the schedule of my fanzine. Yes, there have always been delays and I don't think I can come up with a quality issue on time if I will continue this so rather than do discredit, I will instead foreclose this expenditure. Who knows though, it might be reborn someday.
  2. My writers - yes, I do not pay them. It is out of their willingness that they write despite their busy lives. Since I ran out of them, and well, I can't really force them to write, all I have left to say is thanks for all the effort they've put in the previous issues (if anyone is willing to be my sponsor and wants to head an anime magazine of their own, do not hesitate to contact me ^_^).
  3. Several months back, we were placed in the anipike (http://www.anipike.com) as one of the best fanzines out there. However, that was an issue ago. I do not think I could maintain such an honor at this rate. I'd rather quit while I'm ahead rather than fight a losing battle. Do not worry though, the website will still remain where you can download the previous issues but for any new fanzines, there will be none.
  4. If I value my sanity and emotional stability, I am afraid I have to discontinue the fanzine. Too many things have come up and my personal life (I have one?) is crashing at me. Oh well.

Despite all this though, you fans out there should not fret. While we are leaving, there is a legacy ahead of you. Why, the Philippines now has its very own anime magazine (Questor) and while it is still in its early stages, it can improve. Also, I would not be surprised if more similar minded magazines would pop out in the future. Aside from that, the Philippines has its own comic-anthology, Culture Crash. Not to mention the animation convention we recently had, anime will really thrive in the coming years. Thus, while we will be gone, there will be others to take our place. And how can you doubt that anime will recede when there was extravagant support at the Anime Explosion 2000 held at the Megatrade Hall?

If anything, the recent convention showed you how dedicated the fans are. One just needs to look at the quality of the costumes they displayed. One only needs to glance at how persevering fans are to line up and stay in a cramped room just to meet fellow fans and observe various offerings. No further proof is needed as otakus were clamoring for their favorite guest with full, undying support. *sigh* Anime fandom has just taken a big step in the Philippines. What more could you ask?
