Popular
Destinations
We have grouped some
popular tourist points and tried to suggest a logical way of
covering them.
1. The Golden
Triangle :
Comprises of the Holy City of Puri, also famous for its
beaches, the Konark Temple, also called the Black
Pagoda, and Bhubaneswar, the capital of Orissa. You may also
consider visiting the local Zoo which houses among other
animals, the White Tiger and also operates a small safari,
toy train, cable car and paddle boats.
2. Cuttack : Near the above 'Golden
Triangle' it is 30 kms from Bhubaneswar and is famous for
Silver Filigree work. You can take a day to see this
place.
3. The Buddhist
Triangle:
Comprises of Udaygiri, Ratnagiri and Lalitgiri. These are
ancient ruins of Buddhist Universitys. The site is still
under excavation (though very slow progress is being made).
So you can still see a 'live' excavation site. It is about
80 kms from Bhubaneswar (The Capital of Orissa).
4. Simlipal National
Park: Open
from Nov to Jun. First go to Baripada or Jashipur and then
on to the Park. It is one of the 18 Tiger Reserves in India.
Travel permits are required and reservation for the Forest
Bungalows are to be made in advance, so make sure you ask
your travel operator to arrange these for you. Kiching and
Haripur are 149 and 16 kms respectively from Baripada and
are visited for the temple architecture. Note: Baripada is
approx 300 kms from Bhubaneswar.
