FFML Fantasy, or Secret of the Mailing List: Prologue
By Schala
One of the most controversial and heated topics on the mailing list was perhaps the debate about FF7. The circumstances and time surrounding its release all helped to build up into major debates and flames among the members. Circumstances being: Square's switch to Sony; FF7 being on the Playstation; the PSX being expensive; people having to buy an entirely new system; FF7 being a CD rather than cart game; the starting of school; the deaths of Princess Diana and Mother Teresa; and perhaps other personal problems, as well.
The topics weren't simply about the game as a whole; they were about almost EVERY aspect of the game! Such as (and I am not making up this list):
The size of Cloud's sword
The size of Tifa's bosom
Sex appeal in the game
The FMV's
Aeris's death
The emotion in the game
Character devlopment
Plot development
The characters' appearances
FF6 vs. FF7
The Materia system
FF7's difficulty level
Whether Barrett speaks ebonics
Cait Sith's character
The loading time
The music
The specialized weapons
The ending of the game
And more...
Unerringly (as all of my FFML actions are), yours truly helped to start this up, because I had told the list that it took me about 45 hours to complete the first disk. This led to someone totally bashing me for taking so long, basically saying I sucked because I took so long. Others responded quite unfavorably to this criticism, thus beginning the Time Wars, a subset of the FF7 Wars.
Anyway, because of this, some people started replying to others' posts with a certain amount of swearing, bad grammer, and lots of typos. It got kind of funny, actually... When an "obnoxious person" made a typo, several others would immediately jump on that person about it. Some pleaded for people to be nicer (both in language and tone) in their posts. Others jumped on people for saying only "(PSX, FF7, Cloud, etc.) SUCKS" without giving any reason. 'Twas the invasion of the Lamers; actually, it was more like the Lamer side of people coming out at this time.
And such is the setting for the Guru's fanfic. ^_^
