Of Trials and Tribulations, Part Fourty-Five!!

Silver Lantern was forcing energy blasts at an Asgardian Frost Giant. Archie Goodwin was dodging the fire of the soldiers of Nod. Max Zero was discussing existentialism with Z-Mage in the middle of the battlefield.

"What the heck are those two doing?" T-1000 asked into a walkie talkie. The walkie talkie crackled back the word "talking" as a response. T-1000 was dumbfounded. What could possibly be causing the two of them to stop fighting and talk? What was so interesting or important? He just didn't get it. He didn't know they were debating the concepts of immortality and godlike power. And why couldn't they talk and fight at the same time like supervillains were supposed to do? In any case, he was glad the kids in the Mystifying Machine had left. As soon as they got word that someone had a grudge against the NEB they sped away in a billowing cloud of dust.

FlameStar raced to the site of the conflict on the Superman Board, checking her Deletion Gun for ammo as she ran. Thankfully she had a full supply. She raced past LexCorp and the offices of the Daily Planet, past STAR Labs, and finally arrived in the Fortress of Solitude. She stopped only a moment to get her bearings, aimed her Deletion Gun and fired. The job was done. The red monster was gone.

"FlameStar!" Jack Tango complained. "That guy was on OUR SIDE!"

"Uh oh," she whimpered.

Suddenly Jerry Stanford aimed his weapon at FlameStar and fired!

"NO!" Jack Tango yelled.

FlameStar fell flat on her back, unconscious and wounded.

"You DEVIL!" Jack Tango snarled, and leapt into the fray swinging a broadsword at the fiction-hater!

T'Omm and Conn crept carefully around the subbasement of the Community Board, searching for clues to where the bomb might be planted. Ordinarily their security cameras and detection devices would offer them some information, but the cables had been cut and the power was off. The whole board had gone dark, leaving T'Omm and Conn only the power of flashlights to see where they were going.

"I hope we don't trip over the darn thing," Conn mentioned.

"If only it had dirty words written on it. You could find it then," T'Omm said.

Conn nodded. "But I guess it's not that simple this time," he admitted. "Did Greg say anything when you called him about the bomb? Any ideas on where our culprit may have put it?"

"We're not even sure who it was," T'Omm replied. "It doesn't sound like something even Jerry Stanford would do. But then I never knew him like Greg did. This is all Greg's opinion on the matter. Greg thinks this is a mere distraction for us, to throw us off the trail."

Suddenly something went bump in the darkness. The flashlights whirled from left to right scanning the darkness. T'Omm saw something move. It looked small and moved fast.

"oook!" it blurted out.

OzBat flew as if he were stumbling in the air, trying to find some help against Jerry Stanford. In his weak condition he was of no use to Jack Tango as a combatant, but maybe he could get help... suddenly he spied a blue and green van speeding towards him! It was the Mystifying Machine! And there was Greg driving! The van came closer! And closer!

And it ran him over.

It sped towards the Superman Board.

OzBat was now a small black splotch on the ground.

The splotch lifted a hand and pointed a finger in the air.

"It's okay!" his muffled voice announced. "I'm all right!"
