HISTORY
All the posts on our original ezboard (and the board itself) seem to have been removed. Apologies to those who wrote some of the lovely ic posts; we didn't do it!
What follows here is the history
of The Inn since it left WBS.
Note
from ruthe, March, 2003 - I'm behind in our history. Last summer/fall
we moved to World Broadcasting System when Pathwayz closed. One of the
reasons for my tardiness in updating is that I'm doing site admin as
well as working with Lord Kentinal on the room end of things. .
Note
from ruthe, April, 2002 - Yet another change as we change servers
and hosting services. This move is to a new community named Pathwayz.
While this is a new site and coding work is still in progress, the room
has retained its look and feel, and improvements are coming almost daily.
Note
from ruthe, April 22, 2001 - I seem to be acting as historian of
sorts, or at least tracking the history that I know as fact. Winter
of 2001 was a time of change yet again. (for that which does not change
stagnates and/or dies.) IRL drew Danno into its coils in the form of
a leave of absence from the net, and Becky decided to move on as well.
They will be greatly missed and their contributions remembered. Lord
Kentinal's mun stepped to the plate in an effort to continue the spirit
and history of our old WBS community, and is hosting the renamed room
and our happy band of role-players. Yes, renamed yet again to simply
"The Inn" - an effort to dispell controversy and potential problems
over the use of the name.
Note
from ruthe at the end of the first year after WBS died - (Sept. 1999
- Sept. 2000)
When
Dan and Becky took over, I worked with Dan to reorganize the Guidebook
and other pages to reflect the new owners and tweaked rules ... I'm
not sure he realized he was inheriting this page as well, but that's
the advantage of doing the final update! This is my contribution to
our history; the part I know best. We've lost much of the original history
of the Inn and those who founded it, but at least we now have some record
of the move and those who continued the tradition.
As
the old songs say: "It was a good time, it was the best time, it was
a party just to be near you" ... but "They say that all good things
must end one day, Autumn leaves must fall." And it's autumn. I could
come up with a billion reasons for passing on the ownership, but I did
that and had my sentimental moment on the message board. Instead, I'll
make my final note of thanks.
The Brave
- Dan and Becky, who took on ownership of our space on sfwest at the
end of our first year 'on our own.' They've already put in a lot of
time and effort to make sure the switch is smooth and doesn't impact
anyone's play - Be good to them, ok?
The Best
- Brian Mortensen, who produced our new logo literally overnight to
keep us safe from copyright issues. In a round-about way, he's responsible
for a good deal of this site as he created all the images used here
and taught me nearly everything I know about HTML with unfailing patience
and good humor. Brian's been teacher, friend, and encouragement from
the first time we gamed together, and continues as such, both in game
and out.
The
Writers and Game Theorists - Brian Uri, who wrote the the original guidebook
from the WBS IWT and gave his blessing to using whatever we could; Carlos
Caro, who wrote a supplement on role-playing for it and didn't beat
me too badly when I disagreed with some points and *coff* adjusted them.
And the variety of people I've discussed online gaming with, including
Wendy Beth, Matthew, and Keran and more other folks than I can
remember.
