A superb game nominated for numerous Game of
The Year Awards. Although based on iD technology more likely
Quake2's engine, the technological enhancements made to it
make it look like a completely new game. If you want the shock
factor in your games like Doom used to be , this is the one.
Single player is where it excels. For multiplayer , I prefer
Counter Strike or Quake3.

The real fun is playing this in a
networked environment with lots of friends. Lots of teamwork
and coordination involved and a dose of patience and
perseverance. Without any of that, don't expect to last long
in a match. Great Quake players don't usually translate to
good CS players. You'll need your gut-feeling and a wee bit of
brain on this one. One of the best mods ever to come out for
ANY game. A Half-Life mod.

Quake2 incorporating the Trinity 3D engine. Love the graphics.
Gameplay gets tedious after anything longer than 15 minutes..
Deathmatch can get very intense. Personally I prefer iDs maps
compared to any of plain vanilla Half-Life's deathmatch levels
and Unreal Tournaments blocky looking levels. Very
customizable game engine...As easy as 1..2...3...Good for
short sessions of multiplayer fun.

UnrealTournament
Well thought-out game with lots of varying
gameplay that makes it stand out from Quake3. Graphics will
look bland once you're accustomed to Quake3's brighter looking
graphics. An improved version of the groundbreaking Unreal
engine which excels at rendering large open areas well. Look
out for more games coming out built on this engine. Check out
the Infiltration mod for UT which is a bit like Counter
Strike...it won't replace CounterStrike's tactical gameplay
though. If anything the UT bots work in this one and so make
good shooting practice.
