Hello, this document contains the lyrics of the two opening songs to Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon and translations supplied by us. These songs were translated, line by line, to fit their original Japanese meanings as much as possible. This document was done by Cult Leader Edwin Ng and Wilfred Lam. We believe these are the best transliterations you will find anywhere. Note that capitals in the Japanese lyrics signify English words, as pronounced with a Japanese accent.
Moonlight Densetsu, or Moonlight Legend, was the opening theme song to Sailor Moon for four years since the beginning in 1992. While it is in Japanese, there are some English - albeit pronounced horribly. However, it is an incredible beautiful song. It is slow, haunting and yet youthful. While the lyrics are apparently borrowed from "Soyanara at the End of the Dance", it fits the fact Princess Serenity and Endymion are destined to be together. Its single reached platinum early 1996.
(This song should not be mistaken for DIC's "Sailor Moon Theme" which, while retaining the general melody of Densetsu, uses different lyrics, beats and instruments.)

It seems to be crying, the moonlight
Since I cannot telephone past midnight
I do not know what to do with the love of you
My heart is a kaleidascope
The moon's light will guide me
So that I can once again meet you
Choreography of the stars can predict
All the love which has come and gone
Together on the same earth, a miracle romance
(With you, another weekend
God, please grant me a happy end
In the past, present and future
I will be devoting all my thoughts to you
If disaster comes to us when we meet
I will never forget us
Millions of stars are looking at us
Seeing us attempt to live together in love
Unintentionally, miraculously, we cross again
So I meet with you again
Choreography of the stars can predict
All the love which has come and gone
Together on the same earth, a miracle romance)
Something I do believe in - a miracle romance.
Yes, it's true: Sailor Moon got a new theme song! This one, for the new series Sailor Stars, has much more vitality and energy, probably to reflect the faster, bolder pace of the Sailor Moon legacy. Still, Moonlight Densetsu is a cherished favourite, and this song is still a 9 to Densetsu's 10 in my book. What does the song mean? Is it Usagi's solilquy about Mamoru-chan, who mysteriously vanished? Or, is it about the quest for the starseeds?

(Repeat Chorus (slower beat, first two lines))
From the time when you disappeared,
An unending journey to search for you has begun.
On a map yellowed with age, a stenciled picture of an angel
Points a finger to a Dark Colosseum that awaits our arrival.
The heart trembles from that day's secret kiss.
No matter how difficult it is,
I will continue to find you.
Chorus:
Don't grieve, the Sailor Eyes!
This is about you, the Sailor Wind!
This song knows the path of the star.
I will not lose! Towards tomorrow, with a Sailor Yell
Without doubt! We will find you! The Sailor Star
Flying upon angel's wings.
(Running alone and discovering a path,
At last, with great difficulty, I have found this tunnel.
At the bottom of a fresco your trail is shown.
Someone hanging on a star is gesturing me to come by chanting a spell.)
(This is the miraculous fate of two people,
Even if you cross into the past or the future, I will still find you.)
(Pain is in these Sailor Eyes.
Arising from a miracle, Sailor Wing.
Someone or something is holding the star of fate.
I will not lose! Towards tomorrow, with a Sailor Yell.
Without Doubt! I will catch you! The Sailor Star.
Let this pledge be delivered til the ends of the galaxy.)
(Repeat Chorus (slower beat, first two lines))
Sailor Neptune: "I've been telling you not to overeat!"
Sailor Uranus: (hanging from a building) "Save the scolding for bed..."
