China has 23 provinces, four municipalities:Beijing,Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing, five Autonomous Regions, 174 prefectures and about 2200 counties.

Beijing

Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China. The municipality is under the direct administration of the Central People's Government. The city is the national political, cultural, scientific and educational hub of the country, as well as a major stage for international activities. As one of the renowned ancient capitals of the world, Beijing boasts over 100 cultural relics and scenic spots.

Beijing covers an area of 16,807.8 square kilometers and is located in the southern part of the North China Plain, with the Shanxi and Inner Mongolian plateaus to the Bohai Sea the east.

Beijing has a population of over 11 million. Each of China's 56 nationalities is represented in Beijing. There are 10 districts and eight counties under the jurisdiction of the Beijing Municipality.There are four urban districts: Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chongwen and Xuanwu; four suburban districts: Chaoyang, Haidian, Fengtai and Shijingshan; two outlying suburban districts: Mentougou and Fangshan; and eight suburban counties: Changping, Shunyi, Tongxian, Daxing, Pinggu, Huairou, Miyun and Yanqing.

Shanghai

Shanghai, China's largest city, has a status equivalent to a province, and reports directly to the central government. The city is located on the East China coast just to the south of the mouth of the Yantze River and has Jiangsu province to the north and Zhejiang to the south, and includes the third largest island in Greater China - Chongming Island.

Today, Shanghai is one of China's biggest and busiest port, most important industrial and commercial center. The entire administrative area of the city, including surrounding suburbs, townships and farmland, covers a total area of 2,383 square miles (6,185 aquare km).

Its population is 12 million, with a population density of 41,000 per square km. Its industrial products rank the best in quatlity in China. It has one of China's 2 stock exchange markets. Its residents are known for their business talents, quick wit and sophistication. Its fashions and standards of products and services are more international than other Chinese cities. Its shopping is the best in China. It is so-called "the dragon head" of East China, this leading force has driven Shanghai's economy forward.

Tianjin

Tianjin City

Tianjin is one of China's major maritime cities, and the port for Beijing. Its bustling harbour is situated on the River Hai and on the ancient Grand Canal. Tianjin's prosperity is the result of the city was being made as treaty port, opened to foreign trade since 1858 under the Treaty of Tianjin. And this also contributed to its distinctive architecture - from gothic and Flemish to neo-classic and art deco. Today, Tianjin is a major industrial centre with many top in international and local hotels. Tianjin is a place for both business and leisure traveller.

Chongqing

Chongqing City

The principle city of Sichuan, China's most populated province, Chongqing is one of the country's oldest settlements. The city is located at the junction of Yangtze River(Changjiang) and Jialing Jiang. Today's Chongqing is a busy and lively commercial and cultural centre of the entire upper Yangtze regions, and provides a wealth of attractions for visitors.
