Excel 97 Spreadsheet File Viewer

Microsoft® Excel Viewer is a small, freely distributable program that lets users view and print Microsoft Excel for Windows® (version 2.0 and greater) and Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh® (versions 2.2a and greater) spreadsheet files. Microsoft Excel Viewer gives users the flexibility to view page layout, copy and control cell sizes, and access the zoom and AutoFilter features. The Microsoft Excel Viewer supports OLE DocObject as well as the ability to view any Microsoft Excel file.

Microsoft Excel Viewer 97 is built to automatically configure itself as a Helper Application for Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer (it can also be manually configured as a Helper Application for other browsing tools). This allows users to automatically view Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (.xls) that are linked to HTML pages on a LAN or the World Wide Web.

System Requirements

A personal computer with a 486 or higher processor

Microsoft Windows 95 operating system or Microsoft Windows NT® Workstation operating system 3.51 or later

8 MB of memory for Windows 95 and 16 MB of memory for Windows NT Workstation

7 MB of hard disk space (9 MB free for installation only)

VGA or higher-resolution video adapter

Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

Installation instructions:

  1. You may want to print this page to use as a reference when you are offline.

  2. Download the file from Office Update by clicking on the Download Now! at the top left of this page and following the instructions in the dialog boxes.

  3. Double-click the xlviewer.exe program file on your hard disk to start the Setup program. If you received Microsoft Excel Viewer on floppy disks, run the setup.exe program on Disk 1.

  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
