Background: Billy was 'discovered' jigging atop a Philippines
bowling alley table at the tender age of three! "They thought I was a
stripper!" laughs Billy. Commercials, TV work and movies followed before
our lad uprooted to Texas, then New York where his rendition of the
Jackson classic I'll Be There won him a talent contest and set
him on the road to global success!
Music: "Funky soul stuff." A li'l bit Jacko, a li'l bit Jamiroquai!
Chances of making the Top 10: Bloomin good! "I'd love a platina
disc and I wanna sell as many CD's as Garth Brooks (popular recording
artiste in the US of A, wears a stetson) - even if I have to buy 'em all
myself!"
We put a few hair-rising questions to the latest pop sensation
called Billy...
Why have you such girly hair?
-Hey, if you think this is girly you should have seen it when it reached
down to my butt, ha ha! Nah, I just always wore it long, but at the moment
no one will let me cut it, which I'm really mad about! Still, maybe I can put
braids in...
What do you do when you're not singing?
-I DJ at friends' parties, playing techno, dance, hip-hop, rap, all kinds of
stuff! I practice on my bedroom turntables but no amountion of preparation
will prepare me for those heavy record crates around!
Has your music ever landed you in trouble?
-No, the only trouble I've had is for stealing and drive-by shootings... nah,
kidding! We live in a New York apartment and when my mom and dad go out I
play stevie Wonder at full volume. When the guys downstairs complain, I turn
the music up! And my speakers are huuuuge!
Who are you a fan of?
-For soccer I like Brazil, and the Chicago Bulls are my basketball team...
I love basketball. I played in a team called The Geese for three years but
I tore a ligament in my ankle and needed a brace on it. So no more sports
for me, I still need my performing career!
What do you think of Hanson and BsB?
-I think... Hanson, BsB and Usher, they're all good guys, they're big
competition - but I wanna be bigger than all of them!

Hello, Billy. Your first job were for a commercial when you were
three years old...
-Yes ma'am. It was on the Philippines and I did a commercial for Magnolia
Chocolate Drink. My mother is from the Philippines and my dad is an American.
I moved to the US when I was 12.
And today, you live...
-...In New York, in an apartment with my mom.
That's cool! Then you actually speak 2 languages! How do you say "hi"
in the Philippines?
-(Says something that sounds like taummahaukka)
Aha... okaaay... You danced behind your idol, Michael Jackson, on the
MTV Awards some years ago.
-That was a lots of fun. Michael is an amazing guy. But unfortainly I didn't
get to meet him. There were too many big bodyguards in the way. (Laughs)
They just looked at me and said "Beat it!".
Do you get a lot of fan letters?
-Yes, when I lived in the Philippines, I got about 300 a week. I played in 11
movies over there. Now, when I've moved to the US is it a little less, because
I've just started to break through over there.
How does the woman of your dreams look like?
-Like Jennifer Lopez... or Salma Hayek. But I love Swedish girls also. They're
really sweet, nice and cool. No, I don't have a girlfriend.
You are 16 now and still go to school. What do your classmates think
about this?
-They're happy for me. Not jealous at all, they think it's fun.
Do you have any siblings?
-Yes, two brothers. But I have never met one of them.
Do you have any pets?
-Not now. But I had 14 german shepherds and...
Wait! You said 14?
-Yes. (giggles) Well, in the beginning there were only 2, but then they
got a lots of puppies. It was kinda crazy for awhile.
What do you do on your sparetime?
-I love to DJ and I use to do it when my friends are having parties. And I hang
out with my friends, go to clubs, checking out girls...
