Shane Hills, drums
Shane has been totally supportive of my page and even signed my guestbook; I really appreciate him. Shane had a troubled childhood, to say the least. His mother, a long-time motorcycle gang member, spent much of Shane's childhood in prison. This often left him around his two uncles -- one a child molester, the other a later-convicted rapist. His mother lost several friends and her natural mother to murder, making life very difficult while raising Shane. "And people ask where my aggression comes from . . . geez . . . ." His early teen years consisted of violence and destruction. Between the ages of 12 and 15, he managed to wreck his father's 1969 Chevelle and his mother's 650 Yamaha and also burn down an entire wing of his elementary school with a friend. He was expelled in 7th grade for assaulting his male teacher and was also kicked out of the Boy Scouts for punching another boy in the head. Shane's need to escape reality would start to find roots in drugs during these years. By age 12, he was smoking cigarettes and marijuana regularly. He says he still struggles with drugs to this day. What no one knew about Shane was that he had a talent under all that anger. Starting at age 11, he'd wail on his drums every day after school. He wanted to get away from the daily stress of his life and at the same time disprove all of his teachers who said he would never amount to anything. His first public performance was with a guitarist friend at a roller rink contest. Shane says they didn't even know they were supposed to have a bass player, but they came in second place anyway. "I hate being
normal, and I don't take life too seriously . . . how can
you take it seriously?"
