Not so long ago I heared something about a young artist called Jewel... Not knowing anything about her or even one of her songs I droped the whole thing and did not take much interest in her.
Time passed an all of a sudden I just turned on the tv and there was a sweet blond, green eyed young lady, singing in a video.
Who might that be, I wondered and minutes after I asked myself this question, the answer came: Jewel.
Didn't know what to say... Now I do. A nice video of a great song. 'You Were Meant For Me' is one of that songs that just bump into your head and don't get away so easily (own experience!)
Suddenly there was time for and Mtv Unplegged with the lady... I just thought: Wow what great songs, voice and carisma she has.
So, after another while, I boght her album. Got a bit disapointed to know there was only one availiable arround here.
After some research, I started to admire and like her more and more.
Digging in the Net you'll find only positive and charismatis things fans wrote about Jewel, her life, her songs...
Born on the 23. of May 1974 in Homer, Alaska, Jewel Kilchner had to fight hard to get her break through in her life/ career.
Singing hours and hours in a small place called 'Inner Change' earning some money in her sometimes 3 to 4 hours perfomance. Singing mostly own songs, she was able to get her own audience really soon.
After a while (wasn't that short) there she was ready to record her 1st album: 'Pieces of You'
If we take a look at the list of singers Jewel already toured with or sang, you can get impressed; like Bob Dylan, among others.
Jewel alredy sand with another artist you can find on my Music Page; Melissa Etheridge.
Quite impressive their Duet on Melissa's 'You Can Sleep While I Drive'... If you might get a chance check it out, it's worth.
And so she made it. Funny thing about Jewel is that even now that she got popular, you can still find a pretty shy girl behind mature songs, that blushes when the audience claps a little longer than 5 seconds. (am I telling any half truths Jewel fans???) ;o)
Many great songs like 'Who Will Save Your Soul' or 'Foolish Games' for eg.
Another thing I would like to comment on is the 'Jewel Online Address' we can find in her album.
I was really astonished to see it. Actually I didn't try it now, but I surelly will one day. I thought that this is another point that would sustain my teory about the siple woman behind the cenes.
Somehow she manages to keep this link Jewel - Audience, what I see as a great virtude. May be in a couple of yoears things might change a bit, her breakthrough in some countries is happening inly now, two years after the release of her
first album. After a while I'm positive that he mailbox will be overfloaded (if it isn't already), that might lead to the end of this open chanel.
Let's hope not! And here we are anxiously waiting for Jewel's second album....
But wait, what do I hear?!
It was released. Jewel's second album named "Spirit". Well what should I say?
It's not what I had expected. It's more, much more. The worderful first single 'Hands' is undescribable. It's just fabulous what Jewel puts into her lyrics.
For those who did not have a glimps at her new album, be invited to a great trip through feelings and wonderful music... well, in one word:
Jewel!
... what are you waiting for?! :)
I just realized that it's my time to 'put on my pjs and hop in the bed'... ;o)
