The house remodelling is coming along nicely, albiet at the expense of other things I should or want to be doing; I am behind in administrative work, dog walks, and television watching. The sacrifices are worth it, nevertheless.
Frieda and I started the process when I first moved in a few years ago, and there has always had a sense of "transition" to the ambiance. The ramification of this is that I have not quite felt settled all this time.
All that is changing rather rapidly.
I am finally feeling the hominess that this house has always had the potential of exuding. During this phase, we started in the bathroom, painting it a dark blue-grey color and cream-yellow trim. We then moved onto the livingroom, ripping up carpet, painting the floors a taupe, and repainting the walls that we did when the remodelling originated. Moving onto the stairs, we ripped up more carpet, and painted the walls ivory and the trim taupe to match the livingroom, and the stairs were painted taupe as well. I hung one of the candle sconces that Lowlandz and Rhiannon gave us as a wedding present in the stairway. At night, when it is lit, it is almost as if one has travelled back into time to days when life was simpler, and there was no electricity. The upstairs hallway went from green and white to ivory and taupe again, so as to not clash with the stairway. Again, I placed the matching sconce on the wall opposite the only window in the hall. The asthetics are quite amazing I must say. Perhaps only to me, but then again, that is the main thing (I know The Goddess will love it, too).
Left to complete is the bedroom, and I am painting that a similar color as the bathroom, with the trim a gold colour as opposed to a cream-yellow. I cannot wait to see what it is going to look like, especially with the new bedding The Goddess and I had picked out.
While we were planning to purchase the bedding sometime next year, deciding to make due with what we had for the time being, Monster Moo decided to expedite the process. She is no longer Baby Moo, let me tell you. One day a couple weeks ago, I had her in her kennel while I was at work. The kennel is in the bedroom. Somehow, she bent the steel bars of the door enough to reach a paw out and pull absolutely every piece of bedding on the bed into her kennel. When I got home and went upstairs to let her out, I saw the bent door, a mountain of bedding and fluff, but no Moo. She was underneath all the bedding, seemingly trapped. I honestly do not know how she fit all of it as well as herself inside. In the process, everything became shredded, ripped, and chewed.
I am currently getting my feet caught in chew holes while sleeping at night, and my brand new comforter is missing half of the stuffing.
The Goddess feels Moo was trying to show me that the kennel was not big enough for her.
I have half a mind to get her a smaller one. One where all she can do is lay down..
Nevertheless, I am anxious for The Goddess to walk into the house and see all we have done. Frieda and I intend to purchase some odds and ends to make things complete. Things like little tables, more plants, some knick-knacks, and some linens. It is difficult for me to hide all of this from The Goddess, particularily when she asks me about money. So far, I have been able to talk around things, especially given that it is the Christmas shopping season, but eventually if she keeps prodding, she is going to know something big is up.
I know, however, that once she walks into the house, all suspicion will subside. She will be too busy being hysterical.
Three weeks to go and counting.
