The Spiritual Journey

"The Low Down...." March 26, 2000

In conjunction with the launch of his online journal, I am honoured to present the following guest entry from my bro, Lowlandz:

Entry Date: March 26, 2000, 4:15 pm

"Once upon a time..."
"It was a dark and stormy night..."
"It was the best of times; it was the worst of times..."
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..."
"Captain's log, Stardate 235607..."
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth..."
"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent..."
" A long, long time ago; I can still remember how the music used to make me feel..."
"Call me Ishmael..."

How the heck do you start one of these journals, anyway? In all sincerity, I have no idea. I guess that's why I've taken so long to actually get started! It's not that I have not had the desire or the material (definitely not a lack of material!). I guess it's just the idea of making the commitment to start something that will require constant attention. Today I feel "commitable" (or is that certifiable?). At any rate, I'm ready have at it!

Ceud Mile Faite! (100 000 Welcomes!)

I am Lowlandz and I welcome you to my online journal. It would be remiss of me to not immediately thank Highlands for his enthusiasm and support during the development phase of my online journal. He also gets credit for the title of my journal, The Low Down. I think it ties in quite nicely with the the whole Lowlandz-thing. Finally, I would like to thank Highlands for "simu-casting" my first journal entry on his site. Talk about a friend who goes above and beyond the call of duty! Thank you, Hi.

As a brief introduction to my journal and to its mission, let me start by saying I will be making entries on a weekly basis. This is as often as my wife will allow me to use the computer. (Okay, be honest - how many of you just made the sound of a whip cracking?). Actually, I will make the promise to write a journal entry every Sunday evening, as a way of purging myself before the start of the workweek, but I will not rule out the possibility of midweek entries from time to time. We'll see how it goes.

I mentioned that I hope to use The Low Down as a method of purging my emotions and feelings. Although I do not think of myself as someone who keeps a lot of bottled-up emotions, the very act of thinking about and writing down my thought and feelings should help to keep my headspace clear. At the very least, it should greatly reduce the number of mid afternoon emergency coffee breaks (rescues), that Highlands performs for me.

I also hope that the process of writing my journal entries will aid to expand my vocabulary and to improve my command of it in everyday conversation. Even after writing just this little bit, I can feel my vocabulary getting gooder. (I'm just kidding - I know the proper word is weller). But in all seriousness, I have always been a very visual person, attracted to sketching, painting, designing, and illustrating. For me, the written word has always played second fiddle to glossy pictures, and at this stage in my life, I feel strongly that I need to make a change. I need to change my heading, and The Low Down shall be my vessel.

So if you like, climb aboard and we'll take the voyage together. If interest warrants, I will be joining "Onelist" and creating a mailing list for my journal. Please email me if you would like to be included in this notification list. I promise I will not give, lend or sell your email address to Microsoft...unless they ask really nicely.

"...and they all lived happily ever after."
"...God bless us, everyone."
"...Fin."
"...The End."
"...Sit Boo-Boo, sit! Good Dog."
"...Got Milk?"
"...Mentos. The fresh maker!"
"...Blessed Be."

How the heck do you end one of these things, anyway?
