Kliewe Family Highlights for 1999
<1998 2000>
- January
- We return home one night to find a dead cat on our front lawn. Let's hope that the rest of the year shapes up better than this.
- February
- On President's Day, Sammy tells us that the first President was George Washington. He goes on to explain that the sixteenth President was, of course, "Mister Ham Lincoln."
- March
- Family vacation in Mystic, Connecticut is loads of fun! Later that month, Harry discovers that there's a small hole surrounding the radiator pipe in the floor of the entry hall.
- April
- Small objects start disappearing from the house. We suspect that Harry is using that hole in the floor. Where's the TV remote? The spare keys? Daddy's last raise?
- May
- Daddy single-handedly lifts the backyard kiddy pool to empty out the water. Sammy is so impressed with Daddy's strength that he refers to him as "The Queen of the United States." Mommy explains that the U.S. is not a monarchy, and that the term Sammy is looking for is "First Lady."
- June
- Harry and Sammy have a big fight over whether Ronald McDonald is a "real" clown, or just some guy dressed up as a clown.
- July
- Harry has learned to snap his fingers -- a skill he uses menacingly to command respect from other 3 year-olds. Harry commands a lot of respect at the annual Saturn Car Owner's picnic at Rye Playland.
- August
- We begin our Y2K preparations, with some help from a guide book we came across this summer. It suggests storing extra water (no problem), extra cash (OK, why not?), and learning animal husbandry (no thanks -- the dead cat was enough for us).
- September
- Daddy gets a glimpse of High Definition Television at a local appliance store. Life will never be the same for him again.
- October
- We dress up as the rock band "Kiss" for the annual Halloween parade. After the parade, we drop by Grandma's house to remove our makeup and change out of our costumes, only to find that we've walked right into a surprise 10th Anniversary party for us! Many thanks to all involved in the deception. (You could have warned us, you know.)
- November
- At the Ft. Lauderdale airport, Mommy and Daddy meet Paul Kangas, host of the "Nightly Stock Market Report" on Channel 13. We notice that he's traveling in coach class. Could this be a "sell" signal?
- December
- On a train from New York to Stamford, we meet former New York City mayor David Dinkins. Maybe not the most exciting celebrity encounter, but it sure beats finding a dead cat in the front yard.
Wishing you the best of everything in 2000!
