A Walking Tour of old Jerusalem - The Church of the Holy Sepulchre - Page 2 of 2

Welcome visitor since 26 June 1999!

We continue the tour of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre by descending into St. Helena's Chapel.

Here is a intact mosaic floor.

Then we return by the same stairs to the central church.

We wander around a side corridor of the Church.

Now we come to a small prayer room in a corner.

The photo below is in front of the Holy Sepulchre itself, the 14th Station of the Cross. It marks the point where Jesus was laid in the tomb. An elaborate edicule covers the site where the rock of the Sepulchre can be seen. A mass of pilgrims wait to enter.

Around the outside of the edicule the walls are lined with candles which pilgrims light. Candles outside the edicule

This mosaic is featured on the wall opposite the main entrance to the Church
