So, we didn’t all go up in flames on Wednesday. Relieving, that. I forgot my camera, so I wouldn’t have been able to take pictures of my fiery death. Also, it would have been problematic to bring the camera back home so I could put it in the docking station if I was dead.
I know I was going to talk about my vacation (as if you poor slobs want to hear about the joy that was the Outer Banks while you’re sneaking looks at the internet at work), but something serious came up. There’s something wrong with Dirk’s father.
He hasn’t really been eating for a couple months now, and he managed to lose 40lbs before Dirk’s mom noticed and started getting really worried. She also found out that he’s been puking on a semi-regular basis for the past couple weeks. She, Dirk, and Aaron finally convinced their father to go to the doctor.
Dirk took him to the doctor’s on Friday, where they ran a bunch of tests. They don’t know what’s wrong with his stomach yet – either cancer of some sort or an ulcer, but they did find an aneurysm in his aorta. His heart could go kaboom at any time, really. They’re supposed to perform more tests on his stomach today.
If you’re wondering when Aaron started talking to his parents again, so am I. I’m figuring it happened when Aaron found out that his car insurance was far too high to pay by himself. He also somehow got his license back, supposedly because the police officer hasn’t filed the paperwork yet…so, Aaron can drive until that paperwork is filed.
We finally bought a vacuum cleaner, which of course necessitated vacuuming the floor, renting a steamer, and steaming the carpet for a few hours. Honestly, I hadn’t realized just how filthy it was. It’s as beautiful as it was the day we moved in. I didn’t do most of the work, Dirk did. I’m not big on housecleaning, especially major projects like this.
Good news abounds lately: I finally got my mother to part with the cast-iron wok I’ve been coveting for years. I need to get the rust off, and re-season it, but otherwise we’re good to go. I also finally got some image editing software that does what I need it it: re-size the images. I’ll be putting up images next time, maybe, of my apartment. If it isn’t filthy. Don’t be counting on image-heavy entries, though. I’m not a photographer, and I’m more likely to take pictures of something that I think is absolutely vile than I am to take photos of something uplifting that should be shared. This little formula should help: leftover food sitting in the sink for a week while we play the waiting game of grossness = picture; beautiful sunset with colors and cloud formations that I’ve never seen before = no. I might also put up short quicktime films. Depends on file uploading and space concerns, really.
So, if there’s anything you want to see, besides my beautiful smiling face, you just send me an e-mail. No porn requests, please.
I also updated my links page. I need to update my bio page. More soonish.
