Diary 262

Alex isn't here again today. Please kill me.

Thanks to his absence yesterday, I decided to run off and join the circus. It can't be much more hectic than Personnel for a government agency. And it certainly can't be worse than attempting to find things on Alex's desk. He has a, shall we say, unique method for filing vacancy announcements and applications. He stuffs them both into the same folder, and when the folder gets too full of applications, he puts the vacancy announcements in an unsorted pile on his desk. Or he just doesn't make certain that there are any copies of a vacancy announcement for a certain position, leaving Letisha and I to scramble yesterday when people came into the office looking for them.

Alex is incredibly overpaid for the pissant amount of work he does. All he does, and this I swear to, is sort the mail, answer the phones, and input applications. Meanwhile, he is a GS-4. While I, a lowly GS-2, answer the phones, input applications, process training forms, work on various projects, and...AND...cover for his sorry ass when he decides not to come in and/or do any actual work.

Anyway, my supervisor, Rebecca, came up to me this morning and told me that since Alex isn't in today, she would like me to organize his desk for him. You know, I'm of the opinion that my efforts to contaminate Alex's desk with cockroaches need to be stepped up a bit. And my supervisor is an idiot. An incompetent idiot.

I've been running around all morning processing training forms. I am looking for another job, seriously.

Last night we went up to Tower, where Dirk bought a Ramones Video. No, I don't know why. He bought me tofu ice cream (Giant makes it, it's called "Dreamy Tofu"). I haven't had that in over a year, and someone else bought it for me then.

"But that was in another country and besides, the girl is dead." – horribly misquoted, I'm sure. I only vaguely remember this from High School.

I've listened to the entire Velvet Underground Box set. I've decided that my favorite song, after all, is "Venus in Furs." I'm tired of "Pale Blue Eyes." It's good to sing, and it's relevant (it will always be relevant), but I just don't like it as much as I used to.

I'm so frustrated. I've been doing all this reading about dreams, Jung-style, and I have yet to remember one of my dreams since I started reading this book. Another book by Jung I want to read is the one exploring the collective unconscious and archetypes.

Chris comes back tomorrow, right?

I'm updating the link page, because it didn't honestly reflect the number of online journals I read.

Okay, thanks to the (rather amused) kindness of the Diary-L people, I can now give you the lyrics to the Patty Duke Show theme song.

Kathy has lived most everywhere,
From Zanzibar to Barkley Square
But Patty's only seen the sights
A girl can see from Brooklyn Heights
What a crazy pair!
But they're cousins, identical cousins and you'll find
They're a pair of matching bookends,
As different as day and night
Kathy adores a minuet,
A ballet russe, and crepe suzettes
But Patty likes to rock'n'roll,
A hot dog makes her lose control
What a wild duet!
But they're cousins, identical cousins and you'll find
They laugh alike,
They walk alike,
At times they even talk alike
You could lose your mind
When cousins are two of a kind!

Much thanks to Kymm for providing the lyrics. After teasing me a bit.
