By the way, the Louvre is closed (like most other museums in Paris) on Tuesdays. Don't waste your time. (Like I did.)
L'Arc du Caroussel outside the Louvre. While taking this
picture I was standing in Le Jardin de Tuileries with the Place de la Concorde
at my back. If you turn around from here, in the distance you can see L'Arc de
Triomphe sitting triumphantly at the end of the Champs Elysees.
L'Arc du
Caroussel is in front of the Louvre which is the building in the background.
Here's a shot of the plaza at the entrance to the Louvre.
You enter the museum through doors in the large glass pyramid on the left.
(L'arc du Caroussel is in the background.) There is a lot of controversy about the
glass pyramids, which were designed by an American. Many people feel the modernism is
ruining the antique beauty of the Louvre. I think the pyramids are striking and the
fountains are gorgeous.
This is a photo of one of the many sculptures in the Louvre
that were fantastically beautiful. This is a famous work of two lovers.
Here's another very ancient sculpture entitled Reclining
Hermaphrodite. I loved the piece and was most interested to see the futon-like
mattress that the figure is laying on. It looks like something that could be in
homes today. When I went back to Amsterdam after two days in Paris, I saw a copy
of this work done in bronze at the Sex Museum.
Here are two performance artists working outside the Metro
station next to the Louvre. Their statue routine was very skilled and was accompanied
by trippy music.
