To see beyond the layers of skin in the body is a recent pulsion in History. Until the XVI century it was considered a crime and a sacrilege in Europe to dissect bodies, even if it was for medical or artistic reasons. To see beyond the skin was taboo, it was to profane the sacred. But European culture started to change in those times and no longer the ecclesiastic authorities dictated to everyone what could be seen.
