of the body: See how computers are getting under our skin, observes Mark Dery, noticing that if everything in our bodies is stored in our genes then someday, everything about our genes will be stored in computers. (1) When it becomes possible to the human body to contain nanotechnology, the song I've got under my skin will have new meanings. When the decodification of DNA finishes, the term body design will have also new meanings and unexpected consequences. To see beyond the layers of skin in the body is a recent pulsion in History. Until the XVI century it was considered a crime and a sacrilege in Europe to dissect bodies, even if it was for medical or artistic reasons. To see beyond the skin was taboo, it was to profane the sacred. But European culture started to change in those times and no longer the ecclesiastic authorities dictated to everyone what could be seen.
