"Don't write merely to be understood. Write so that you cannot possibly be misunderstood." ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

Katy J. Vopal

So here's the scoop....

You want to know how it all began? A little bit is explained in my page "The Story Behind the Search "

Who is behind this madness?

It's me! Hey, this is probably how most of my relatives remember me! I was about 3 here!

This is more like it! My graduation from Indiana State University.

If you are related to me and want to find me, here's how:

I can be reached via email at SalemCat3@aol.com

Yes, it has been a long time, hasn't it? It's currently 12:17 a.m. on April 2, 2005 and maybe my guilt has been eating at me, the guilt that I've neglected this site for so long. I have a really good explination! :)

To all my relatives: I plan on giving this site a major overhaul this year, probably in the summer, and I will dedicate it to Vopal genealogy. It's a labor of love started by my cousin, Susan Chapman, and she's the one who gets the most credit for overall family history. (Thanks, Susan!) I've heard through her that several people have tried to e-mail me, and I've been away from this site for so long even the e-mail addresses are out of date.

So here's what's going on with me: I'm currently in my third year of a Ph.D. program in Creative Writing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I teach college full time, I'm on faculty at Lakeland College, Ottawa University, and Waukesha County Technical College. I teach a variety of writing classes - creative, professional, research, and basic composition; I also teach literature, American Literature and Women in Literature, as well as public speaking and a variety of communication classes. On top of that, I'm on faculty at All Writers' Workplace and Workshop in Waukesha, WI.

Whew! Now you see why I've been away for so long!

I've had a number of stories, articles, and poems published in the past few years. No book yet, and I stress yet, but these days I don't even seem to have time to do that. But my work has appeared lately in: Characters, Dan River Anthology 2005 (which is available at amazon.com), Flesh From Ashes, Scrivener's Pen, Working Writer, and other publications.

One thing I would like to do for this site is gather writings and memories from relatives and post them. I have a few stories that I would like to share, and I think the personal stories of others will make a nice addition.

I am willing to cover the costs of photcopying for pictures, records, and old letters if you don't want to part with them, or postage to send any thing to me. Anything would help me. I would really like other relatives to contriubte thier own stories for me to add to the site, such as Elmer Vopal did. (See the John Vopal page.) I also am looking for accuracy of dates, children's names, etc. Please conact me ASAP if there is a birth, wedding, death, etc., and I will announce it on the page! Please don't be afraid to even just write me and say hi...I've already met a few wonderful relatives, and I hope to meet more!
