The Story Behind the Search

It all begins with a story...

"He came over on Easter Monday, and that night we went dancing at the Eagles. He was a wonderful dancer, and I loved being with him. He came over the next day, and kissed me. I knew then he was the one. A year later, he put the diamond ring on my hand and said, 'This isn't for a day, a week, or a a year; this is forever...'"

That was a day in 1941, when my Grandpa, Wally Vopal, proposed to my Grandma, Sally. It was just one of the many stories I'd heard growing up, and they were ones we loved to hear over and over again. As a child, we take these stories for granted, not knowing they are part of such a magnificent legacy.

My name is Katy J. Vopal. I'm from West Allis, Wisconsin, and this page began several years ago when I was a graduate student at Indiana State University. This web page is the result of many hours of research and a labor of love, not only by myself, but other family members and people who have contributed. As a writer myself, I love to tell stories. I have always been facinated by the history and mysteries behind my family. I hope that this page will help others who are related, and even not related, to know and learn about these families great histories.

This page will always be under construction, and new people come in and out of my life and add little bits and pieces to our history. I began work on it in August of 1998, and it will keep growing.

I am also hoping that anyone who has any information about these families will contact me and let me know. Any bit of information, of the smallest story, will help. Don't hesitate to contact me!

I hope you enjoy your stay on my page! Many thanks to the people who have helped and the ancestors who have paved the way.
