CARS I HAVE OWNED. THEY SAY YOU CAN TELL A LOT
ABOUT A PERSON BY THE CAR THEY DRIVE. HMMMM.... (PRICE IS GIVEN WHEN REMEMBERED.
FEEL FREE TO SEND ME COMMENTARIES IF YOU HAVE OWNED SIMILAR VEHICLES.)
- 1961 TRIUMPH HERALD ($70.00)
Twin S.U. carbs and flip up seats (I think).
- 1963 PONTIAC LAURENTIAN (FREE).
A Canadian model back when we had Canadian models. Americans will not recognize
it or the Mercury Montcalm or the Chevy Acadian or the Parisienne. But
then we didn't get the inline overhead cam six Tempest either, or the 326
(NOT 327) Pontiac Firebird.
- 1965 Volvo 544S. ($25.00 ) A
great car, fun and fast and as solid as a rock. It's front fenders were
different colours and it had a doorknob as a trunk lid handle. I think
it also had one or two SU carbs. Used the back seat a fair bit...
- 1965 Mustang Cobra.($600.00
from a guy named Reed Brownell in Brockville, Ontario) I called it a de-fanged
Cobra since its engine and tranny were from a '68 and '67 respectively.
It still had dual exhaust and fat polyester (thump thump) tires. Black
exterior with a 1957 Chevy grille and all Mustang chrome taken off. The
imitation knock off hub caps were last seen on my brothers Datsun pickup.
25 miles a gallon and it would do about 115 before my shorts needed changing.
Sold for $900.00 and last seen on King Street in Brockville with a ski
rack on the trunk lid. Here are two
shots of the Mustang. Take a peek, then y'all come right back!
- 1969 Ford Cortina S Four door
Saloon (sedan.) ($900.00 from a dealer.) Two barrel Weber carb and one
of the most faithful cars I ever had. I drove it from Brockville to Toronto,
loaded almost to the ground and got 45 miles a gallon once. Towards the
end, the gearshift handle kept coming out of its socket at speed. That
was exciting.
- 1979 Mercury Zephyr ES ($5900.00
new from a dealer.) Silver out and black in with buckets, no power steering
and a manual on the floor with a 4 cylinder. I thought it was the best
looking car until I saw the
- 1979 Dodge Challenger($7500
new from a dealer.) 2.6 litre 4 cylinder with a 5 speed and all kinds of
doodads to play with. The smoothest andquietest car I have ever driven.
- The break above is to signify
a break in owning cars. I started to sell cars for a living in 1979 and
for ten or eleven years had a great time. But I lost my love of cars. The
lesson? If you love your hobby, don't mix it with business or work. It
kills the fun!
- 1984 Toyota Tercel (actually
my wife's car.) Loud and solid and still running. Started EVERY time I
asked it to.
- 1984 Volkswagon Rabbit Diesel
(free) 50 or more miles per gallon and fast enough to get me a speeding
ticket racing a kid with a Buick.
- 1983 Buick Lesabre ($100.00)
A summer car with air conditioning. Typically known as a beater. I sold
it for $450.00.
- 1984 Dodge Sportsman Wagon ($4500.00)
127 inch wheelbase, eight passenger with the seats in the back that folded
into a bed. Kids loved it, I hated to work on it and spent most of my time
doing just that. Got 20 miles a gallon once. Sold it for $6100.00.
- 1988 Dodge Omni (free.) Still
driving this for work.
- 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager
L.E. ($4500.00 - I bought a lease for an old friend who didn't have the
bucks. Great deal eh!) These last two we are still driving so the stories
aren't gold yet.
Who
says you can't go home again?
