The AMD K6-2 requires a board that will accept a pentium chip. Many of the new Socket 7 boards (pentium CPU) have AGP, ATX, DIMMs and intergrated components (ie video, sound, SCSI). My favourite type of board to place in systems of this type are the FIC or the Tyan Whereas the PII requires a Socket 1 board which is a entirely new breed of mainboard. The Socket 1 boards almost exclusively use AGP video card slots, and are also ATX with soft power. The Socket 1 boards are best configured with the 440BX chip set for single processor or the 440GX for multiple CPU systems. My favourite type of Socket 1 ATX boards top place are the Supermicro or the Tyan |
