Wait,
this program is now completely useless :-(
Now there's the Skill Management that tells you
immediately the real values of your skills, so I doubt you'll even think to
read this page...
Anyway,
I'm here to tell you something, so let me talk a while about this program.
You know that there is a cap in the total of skills you can achieve in UO.
This cap is not based on the displayed values (from now "Actual Skill"), but
on lower values that don't count on bonuses from stats. The total amount of
this lower values (from now "Base Skill") is 700 pts, but the formulas are
a pain in the ass if you want to manually know how close you are to the cap,
so here it comes UOCHANAL.
As I told you, now you can look at these values directly from UO, so you must
be a little masochist to download UOChAnal... well, at least it's free, and
will produce a report to keep track of your progress...
A little precisation: UOChAnal DOES NOT DIALOGUE with UO! You must insert any value manually, but you can choose from a few choices ;)
USE:
The most important thing you have to know is that the skills list, along with
their percentage of influence, is in the file BONUSES.TXT.
The order of the skills in this file will be the same in any function of UOChAnal,
so if you prefer a different order, just sort this file at your wish. You
can even insert new skills, and UOChAnal will do the rest. But please, be
sure to insert the percentages exactly as they would be, or any report will
be compromised!
Well, now the first step is to insert your name and your STATS values.
Click on "Enter Stats" and you'll see
this window:
As
you see, you can show your portrait: take a shot from UO and size it at 260x320,
then save it as "portrait.jpg" in the
UOChAnal folder. You can even save a picture of a different size, and it will
be showed at its best, but make sure to name it portrait.jpg.
Now insert your Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence and press "Done".
Now
you must insert the actual values of your skills.
You can proceed in three ways:
1) Edit the file SKILL_AV.TXT
with any text editor you like (e.g. Notepad).
2) Click "Check Values"
in the main menu to launch an UOChAnal internal editor (just if you don't
like Notepad ^___^)
3) Click "Skill Entry"
to open a little entry window, so you can look at your values in UO and insert
them in this simple data entry.
If you manually insert your values (choice 1
or 2), always
remember that the decimal point is a point (.) not a comma (,)!
The following are screenshots of choices 2 and
3:
The final step will be a simple click on the "Proceed!" button, and the program will begin its calculation based on the values you gave it. You'll see this report window:
If
you click on the arrows you'll scroll the list up or down (left button to
scroll 1 row, right button to scroll 1 page), and clicking on the "Print"
button will produce a report on the system printer. If you don't have a printer
this button will be disabled.
When you click "Go Back" your report
will be saved on disk, so that next time you'll check the progress you made.
That's all, I hope you like it :)
WARNINGS:
At higher levels will be impossible to determine your base values. I'm not
lying to to you, check the Skill
Calculator made by Stratics,
and try to determine the base value of skill at 100 points ;)
This is
the explanation (taken from Stratics):
Remember that the above formula has been determined to be absolutely correct
only for determing Attribute Bonuses and Base Skills at the time of character
creation. Due to the fact that Ability is influenced so heavily at the time
of a character's inception, it may be impossible to determine what a character's
true Base Skills are at any future point without knowing what it's original
starting statistics were. As a character develops and its Actual Abilities
become more and more heavily influenced by Attributes, it becomes harder and
harder to dissect that character's skills down to their Base Skill level.
What does it mean? Probably, at GM levels, you'll find a Base Value equal
to the Actual Value, but this is not a bug, it's just a fact ;)
FINAL
THANKS:
First I wish to thank Jean Jacques, author of "Ultima Online Skill Cap Calculator",
the original idea was his. But the first person who gave me the formulas was
Kaiou, he deserves a special mention :-)
In a moment of panic I've been saved by Tim Whalen aka Ringo aka Htebalaka
Dragon, author of UOSS
Skill Calculator, thanks Tim.
And I have to give a special thank to my favourite *alltime* tester: Slyke
^__^
Finally,
a very special thank to the folks of the italian newsgroup it.comp.giochi.rpg.ultimaonline,
without you this program couldn't exist :-)
03/27/00: I have a new printer, and this is an inkjet one. I made some adjustments in the printed report to better fit in these kind of printers.
11/23/99: Sorry, I was in hurry and I didn't correctly check the new code. Please bear with me and forget Rev. 17. The working one is Rev. 19. I humbly apologize :-(
11/22/99: Did
I already told you that Stratics
is the bible of UO? Didn't I? Well, I do it now ;-)
Thanks to Stratics I found the
original order of the title shown in your paperdoll. If you have a multi
GM character, now the UOChAnal report shows the right title. This
forced me to change the file BONUSES.TXT, so if you have a version prior to
1.0 rev.17, please be sure to replace this file (this would be done by
the setup program, but who knows... ^__^).
10/20/99: I noticed that the skill entry window is more functional if the main window remains hidden, so here it comes the new rev.13 ;-)
10/12/99: Fixed
an annoying bug that could cause an overflow error in the report window. Thanks
to Zagor for the notice :)
If you experienced this error you should download the new version 1.0 (rev.11).
09/12/99: After 1 month, finally the official v1.0 has been published :))))
Well, you can download the "program only" version or the complete one (with every VB6 library needed by this program):
The huge download
is due to a massive request of dll's by Visual Basic 6. So, for a faster download,
try the program only first (fully functional, but without system files). But
if dont have any VB application in your system I fear you must download the
full version :(
TIP: You need to download the full version only
once! :)
If you upgrade from a previous version you can always download the program only.
Please e-mail me any kind of problem, bug or suggestion for enhancements.
Cheers :)
