Part B: examination of some minor aspect
If you're using the no-frames version, you'll find the links at the bottom of this page

I don't know what you can find here, I think I'll explain some minor aspect of Ultima Online.
Let me know if you have some suggestion, send me an e-mail of what you would like to find here.

1. Some Gift of Little Value

World of Britannia
Britannia wallpaper, 1024x768, 500Kb
For instance, the first thing I give you for resisting in reading until now, is a wallpaper of the map of Britannia, I put it on my desktop and it is really nice. It is a JPEG in 1024x768, made by me with the help of a great program: InsideUO by Alazane, with this you can check any graphics related to Ultima Online, thanks Alazane.
Click on the small image to see and save on your hard disk the full-sized image.
The Lost Lands
Lost Lands, 1024x1793, 800Kb
If you like maps, this is the one from the Lost Lands ;-)
Probably you won't set it as wallpaper, due to its size, but I think it could be useful.
It has every place of interest, and the passages from the old world.
It's bigger, about 800Kb, but the procedure is the same: click on the small image to the left to see it at full size, and if you like it save it on hard disk.
UO Cover
UO Cover, 1024x768, 500Kb
This is the last image, I promise ;-)
It's just too beatiful, I can't ignore it!
It's the picture by Tim & Greg Hildegrandt, showed during the installation of Ultima Online.
The format is 1024x768, it's about 500Kb and you must know how to save it on your hard disk...

Do you like the rune font used in the navigation buttons? If you want you can download the true type font Britannian Runes, a zip file of less then 3Kb! Click here to save it on hard disk, unzip it and install it as a normal true type font.
Remember to use always lower-case character!

And if you want you can download the Avatar true type font too, about 40Kb of zip file.

Sometime ago I made a simple Word document, to keep track of the spells I learned.
It tells you which spells you already know and which not.
At circle level it shows the spells (obviously ^__-), the min/max points required to cast, and the mana used.
At Spell level it shows the required reagents and optionally the quick key you'll assign to that spell, and finally a box that you'll check when you'll acquire the spell.

To look at the document at normal view click on the image on the right, to save it on your hard disk click on "Download this Document".

That's all. I told you they were gifts of little value ;-)

2. The Skill Management

This is a recently included function, let's see how it works.
We have the complete control of our skills, we can finally set the behaviour of every skill.
Another option is the ability to look at the real values of the skills (without bonuses from stats).
This is how the Skills Scroll will look like:

At the top of the scroll there's a button. If you check "Show Real" it will display the base values, if you uncheck it will display the modified values (with bonuses from stats).
At the bottom-right it shows the sum of your real values, even if you uncheck the previous button. This is because of the skill cap (700 points) , always based on raw values.
On the right of every skill there's a button. It will determine the behaviour of that skill. Every time you click on this button the image will rotate, showing an up-arrow, a down-arrow or a lock.
Up-Arrow means that the skill can only raise. Choose this and the skill will never atrophy :-)
Down-Arrow means that the skill can only atrophy. If you reach the cap and another skill must raise, this will be one of the skill that will lower.
Finally, the Lock means that the skill is locked. It will never change its value.

Some final notes:
- If you reach the cap, the only way to raise some skill is that you have some points in marked down skills! Otherwise any skill won't raise, even if marked up!
- If you lock some skill, you automatically lock the related stats! You won't have any gain in any stats related to locked skills.

3. Treasure Hunting

If you plan to be a real treasure hunter, you have to develop a dedicated character, or grouping with other people, each one with his task.
But if you want to enjoy this aspect of the game with your normal character you can dig first level treasures.
There are 5 different levels of treasures, bigger the level and harder the quest, and bigger the loot ;-)
Here I talk you about first level. You can find these maps in the bodies of low-level monsters such trolls, gazers and ettins, but you have to be quite lucky!
Let's start.

Decoding the map.
We found a map (tattered treasure map) but it's unreadeble. We must first decode it using the Cartography skill, but at these levels it's not a difficult task, you can succeed even under 10 points!
Double-click on the map, probably you'll receive some "You fail to decode the map" message, but keep trying unless you receive the "This map is too difficult for you to decode" message. In the latter case the map is of a higher level, and you must be at least in the 80's to succeed.

When successful, the map will open, showing the area in which you must dig.

Find the place.
Take a pickaxe or a shovel with you, look at the map of Britannia and find the place.
When you think you are in the right area begin to dig. You'll use the Mining skill for this, and if you are a good miner you'll dig a bigger area at a time, but if you're not so skilled you must dig in the exact tile to find the treasure.
If you don't have the patience to search for the treasure, you can look at the Stratics pages to find the exact coords, and with the help of a sextant you can find the right place in a few seconds.

The chest.
You finally find the chest! But you can't open it, because it's locked and trapped.
To open it you have two choices: the Lockpicking skill (at least in the 80's) or the Unlock spell (but ONLY FOR FIRST LEVEL TREASURES!).
Now there's the trap. If you are a real treasure hunter you'll probably use the Remove Trap skill, but you can even move for some steps and cast the Telekinesis spell to set the trap off ;-)

Treasure Discovery

The Guardians.

The chest is finally open, and now will spawn the guardians!
Don't worry: first level guardians are simply ridiculous! At worst you'll have to fight two mongbats and some skeleton, nothing to worry about ;-)
But at higher levels things will change! Don't count on it!

Inside the chest.
In these first level chests you'll always find 1000 gold pieces, a dozen of gems, some reagents, some scroll up to 7th level, and 6 magic items. Normally you'll find magic items of little values, but if you're lucky you can even find some magic weapon "of vanquishing".
Clear enough, higher the level and higher the loot ^__-
Now the previously decoded map is labeled as "A treasure map completed by [your name]", you can keep it for memories or you can throw it away.
