Graphic Design

I love graphic design because it is always a challenge, and when you succeed, the rewards are high. In graphic design, you walk the fine line between form and function, creativity and utility, and when you hit a perfect layout which satisfies both, you have a wonderful thing.

What is good design?

I read an essay once which compared good design to a clear glass. The description stuck with me because it is such an accurate analogy. A clear glass lets the observer see the beauty of its contents while effectively housing it, much as good design clearly conveys a message while housing it in a colorful and creative way. This analogy helps me remember that my first priority is to service the client, to convey their message, and to ensure that nothing detracts from that clarity. I like the fact that some graphic designers have now adopted the title of information architect. That is how I like to see the graphic designer, as organizer of information, purveyor of clarity.
