Reasons why this happen:
- Access number is having a problem
- Dial-Up Networking Settings
- Password/Username is incorrect
- DNS#s are incorrect
Access number having a problem?
- Try a different access number, or if your *ISP has an 1800# try that, if
you can connect you might want to inform your *ISP that you are having a
problem, so they can get it fixed as soon as possible. If you are STILL
getting the error, Try the following
Dial-Up Networking Settings:
- Click on My Computer, Dial-Up Networking, Right-Click
on your *ISP's connection, and select Properties
- Click on Server Types, MOST ISP's ONLY need the check mark in
Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP if you have a check in Required
Encrypted Password that could cause the error, might want to uncheck
it, and try again, if not try the next
Password/Username is Incorrect:
- Go to My Computer, Dial-Up Networking Open your ISP's Connection
- Re-Enter the username, and the password. (If you do
not know this, you might want to just call your ISP's Tech Support)
- If you get connected Great! Make sure that you have the Check mark in Save
Password! that way you won't have to enter it again (if you can't save it
because it is grayed out, check out Grayed Password
Box)
DNS#s are Incorrect: (Assuming you know the DNS#s, and if your ISP does not
have it so the Server assigns the Name Server Addresses)
- if you know your ISP's DNS#s, then here is how you put them in
- Open, MY COMPUTER, Dial-Up Networking. Right click on your ISP's
Connection, Select Properties
- Click on Server Types (Tab/button)
- Click on where it says TCP/IP Settings...
- if there is not a Dot in "Specify Name Server Addresses"
then click there
- Double-Click (or just Highlight) the first Zero in the Primary
DNS, and enter your ISP's DNS#s.
- Click on OK, then OK and Try again
