CPU COOLER MODS

You just found the Inter Net nest of DATASERVICE ..

Part 1

I have notice by the time  that in all the CPUs heat sings , when you remove the fan after a long operation time , its visible one trail of dust on heat sing .

I noticed  that  the use of 60x60  fans  leave the  center of the CPU heat sing clear of dust.

So the conclusion is that only as  small part  from the heat sing receives the air flow .

I decide to experiment a bit with that phenomenon , and  after of long research I end up  with the idea that I have to move away the fan blades from the heat sing.

Also in my consideration was to not have any performance drop.

The solution come easily to my mind , I  select  one body of one fan 60x60x2,5 mm  ( I had it from a dead fan) I  did take off the motor and the fan blades ,by cutting the support  plastics that join  the motor with the rest  body of the fan .

I install  the empty fan body first over the heat sing and the  normal active fan at the top of it ..

I will only say that my damn idea just worked , I did see a 4 Celsius drop in my temperatures .

Its possible one day the fan manufactures to start having considerations about to improves on the fans design , by the same way that the  manufactures of CPU heat sings have start doing their design improves .

Web master Kiriakos Triantafillou Volos-GREEC E This site is working since 1998

A = FAN SANYO DENKI 60X60X2,5mm

B = Empy FAN body

Here is the great results ,of my idea .

After of 2 months operation, the heatsing is full of dust , all of it !!!

Even the CPU clip is full of dust ,in all the length of it .

Imagine ,that the Sanyo Denki fans, have very small fan blades ,that covers only the 1/3 of the total diameter of the fun .

It looks that i did make it :) , lots of dust = good air flow !!

I guess now that i have to make more efficient  dust filters :)

Part   2

Another  little problem that I had come to , is one that I had create  by my self , I had

 add a second  fan on  my PSU  , that was a bit help as long I had SLOT 1 based system ,as the direction of the CPU cooler was not get involve with the air that this PSU fan was sucking .

Now with the new FC PGA motherboard I had come to a problem as the  my CPU fan with the PSU fan was too close .

The solution come with the idea to create one  fence between the two , so this is what this pictures is showing .

A= CPU FAN

B=Empty Fan Body

C=Plastic fence
