Avoiding Being Detected Counting Cards

As I have said before, Casinos make their own rules, and one of those is that you cannot
count cards when playing Blackjack. Obviously, they don't want people who can take
money off them playing. If they suspect you are counting cards, you will be banned from
the Casino, or banned from playing Blackjack there, or only allowed to play with
modified rules (such as shuffling the deck after every couple of deals).

I had a niece who was banned from playing Blackjack at the Christchurch Casino, so
I know it does happen.

You have been warned!

The way to make money with card counting is to bet low when the count is low, and bet
high when the count is high. But to avoid detection, you will need to be subtle about
this.

Sitting out a hand and not betting when the count is unfavourable is the best way
to avoid losing money, but also an extremely good way of signalling that you are counting
cards.

You therefore need to bet on every hand, but just bet the minimum amount when the count
is bad.

Another way to signal that you are card counting is to have a large difference between
your high bets and your low bets. If you bet $2 with bad counts, but $200 with good
counts, the casino will immediately suspect you are up to something.

Your maximum bet should be not more than eight times your lowest bet, and you can usually
make a profit (albeit a small one) with a 1 to 4 range (e.g. $2 to $8).

When the True Count is +1, the game is about even, so you can mask your intentions somewhat
by varying the amount you bet. It should not affect the overall amount of return.

Do not alter your bet if there is a stand-off. If you do, it implies you are analysing something
to make you change your mind!
