Amitabha
is the ruler of the Western Paradise, Sukhavati. His name means
"boundless light" in Sanskrit. He is often depicted with his
hands held together in the Meditation Mudra (right hand resting on left
hand with the tips of the thumbs touching) and red in color. He
represents compassion and wisdom. He vowed to rescue all beings
who recite his name faithfully for seven days and grant them entry to
Sukhavati.
