JFK Vocation Business Education
Accounting 1-2:
This course is a must for anyone considering a career in a business-related field, especially
those considering college or starting their own business. All businesses keep financial
records and issue financial reports. This class will give you an understanding of basic
accounting principles and procedures commonly used by all businesses. Computerized
accounting is also used. (10-12) No prerequisite
Business Management:
This course is designed to introduce students to economic basics, business operations,
and entrepreneurship. The functions of management, operations, personnel, marketing, accounting,
finance, and international business will be explored. Students will become aware of the importance
of business in our economy and prepare themselves to be successful participants in the business
world. (9-10) No prerequisite.
Desktop Publishing:
This class will enhance your creativity. Using the Microsoft Publisher program, you will learn
to design menus, birthday cards, business cards, calendars, and much more. As you progress through
the program, you will learn how to manipulate different features in order to make your designs
unique. (10-12) Prerequisite: Word Processing 1
Future Choices 1-2:
This course will provide juniors and seniors with the opportunity to update their career
awareness and acquisition skills by creating portfolios, participating in mock interviews and job
shadows, improving business computer skills, identifying and developing employability skills,
and conducting online college and job searches. Personal financial skills, including checking
and saving accounts, major purchases, credit, taxes, and investments will be a course focus.
Computer business skill enhancement is stressed by utilization of the following software: word
processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentations. The Internet is used. Skills necessary to
compete and participate in a global economy are reinforced. (11-12) No prerequisite.
Marketing 1-2:
Learn the skills that you need to manage a business. Study advertising, accounting, personal sales,
distribution, etc. Participate in a stock market simulation on line. Be a member of DECA. (10-12)
No prerequisite.
Multimedia:
You'll be using a combination of graphic art, sound, animation, text, and video to incorporate
the elements of design into advertisements, PowerPoint presentations, Web sites, and Adobe Photoshop
and Illustrator projects. If you enjoy exploring the Internet and using your creativity on the
computer, this class is for you! (10-12) Prerequisite: Technology Applications.
Web Page Design:
Students will be introduced to basic design principles and are able to design and develop
Web-based sites using HTML. Students work on individual and collaborative in-class and on-line
activities, presentations and individual projects. By the end of the course, students will be
able to create Web sites which include the following elements: tables, frames, image maps,
forms, graphics, animation and sound. (10-12) Prequisite: Technology Applications
Word Processing 1:
Word Processing is a must for the majority of students. Most likely, your future educational and career
choices will involve the use of a computer keyboard. You'll come out of Word Processing 1 with the ability
to keyboard by touch. You'll also learn to format common documents used in school and in business. Software
and hardware used in the business world will become familiar to you. (9-12) No prerequisite.
Word Processing 2:
This course provides additional experience and opportunity to develop computer word processing
skills. Advanced-level word processing functions will be taught. (9-12) Prerequisite:
Word Processing 1.
