Thoughts On Subject |
The story is mostly about how the older brother (Takuya Enoki) deals with the current situation that he never expected or chose. And the sudden change of things causes all sorts of problems on our main character. Takuya is a pretty good brother overall, but at heart he is still a child. While he is capable of looking after his brother (Minoru Enoki), stress and inner confusion overtake him at times. He became cruel and selfish or saying hurtful things when his stresses overcome him. But it a sense, all this is understandable aince a real human being would act the same way. There are other people around Takuya that tries to help out, but only so much can be done to make it easier on him. In a lot of ways the real complexity is not the burden of looking after Minoru. It is society that puts a lot of stress on Takuya. The absence of a mother and the efforts of a ten year old trying to take that role cause some fairly dramatic situations. Even Minoru knows that he is missing something and reacts to this loss as a baby would, it is easy to see how complex the effects of this sudden change is. Akachan To Boku is serious and down to earth. At times, it can be quite tiring to watch, but like reality it is not without its rewards. Watching Minoru when he comes to an understanding, or Takuya's thrill when Minoru learns to say Onii-chan (Big brother), is a positive and rewarding experience. I highly recommend this anime for all those who are tried of watching blood lust, flying mechs, sappy love stories, super humans or those who does not believe that anime can portrait real life. |
