Do cats like milk?Cats like, milk but often milk does not like cats. A cat can develop a reaction to milk and get loose bowel. Bottle fed young kittens are not given milk. They get formula. If your cat can't digest milk and needs to have it ,you may give it milk in small amounts. Should cats be declawed?Saves thinks that declawing a cat is not humane. We have encountered abandoned declawed cats that cannot defend themselves. There are other methods that inhibit cats from clawing furniture - such as scratching posts, water guns (sprayed at cats), and some sprays for the furniture that help keep cats from ruining the furniture.Studies are being done to see if cats are being affected psychologically by being declawed. |

Why do female cats need a recovery period?Female cats need to recover from the operation of spaying indoors. This limits the cat's movements, and the chance of the cat opening her wound. Since we deal with feral cats we keep her in a holding cage for a period of 7 - 10 days. We use dissolvable stitches.A house cat usually has her sutures(not dissolvable ) out in 10 days. We also recommend that shredded newspaper and not litter be used in the litter box for this period of recovery. What cat food is best for my cat?There are so many brands and special diet cat foods that is hard to recommend one. Some vets are suggesting we go back to people food plus vitamins for cats. Cats must have food that is high in protein. It can be commercial cat food or table scraps. Perhaps a mixture of both would be the best. Do cats need vaccinations?This question is now being studied. Shots may cause carcinoma in some cats. If there is a rabies problem in your areas, and you have an outdoor cat, ask your vet for the safest rabies shot. The spot where the shot is given,must be rotated on the cat each year. Indoor cats do not need shots as much as outdoor cats. Shots are often only good for a year. Speak with your vet about your particular needs. How are feral kittens tamed?The kitten will be very frightened. Wrap the kitten in a towel and make sure all four paws are secured in the towel. Only the kitten's head should be exposed.Keep the cocooned cat on your lap and stroke it and talk to it. This process must be done as often as possible to get the cat used to humans.You may get a few scratches in the process, but the results are worth it.Remember to keep the kitten in a holding cage or a secure room until it is tame. Why should all cats be neutered or spayed?A "fixed" cat is less likely to develop cancer. Male cats can be checked for undescended testicles.In addition a non-sterlized cat seeks a mate, and can, in this process, encounter other cats and be subject to viruses and diseases. Male cats neutered at under 6 months will be less likely to spray as well.The importance of trapping, "fixing" and returning feral cats to their feeders, cannot be overemphasized .This is the only way to control the feral cat population and to prevent the needless suffering of feral kittens. How can I find a home for kittens?We recommend taking a picture of the kittens and placing an ad in the local paper or on the bulletin boards at the local vets office.A description of the kitten should be included. There are so many kittens available, and that is why we so strongly recommend spaying/neutering as early as you can.
