| Comments: The state of Montana is not responsible for the management of federal lands. YOUR government is responsible for the management of YOUR lands and YOUR bison. For years Montana has been warning federal officials that he blatant mismanagement of the Yellowstone herd would lead to the situation we are now experiencing. (If those "greedy" ranchers had mismanaged their cattle and shown the degree of disrespect for the land that the federal agencies have, they would have b en out of business a long time ago. Concerning the brucellosis issue...it is FEDERAL, not Montana "wisdom" that says bison could transmit the disease to cattle, and it was a FEDERAL warning that Montana cattle producers would lose their brucellosis-free s atus (thus denying them considerable market opportunities in your "innocent" states) that brought about the bison slaughter. In other words, the federal government refused to do its job, then is ready to turn around and punish Montana for the consequences If you are as concerned as you claim to be, try doing something that will have positive consequences rather than just going for the sensational...forget the expensive newspaper ads, forget the boycot garbage, those are only attempts to convince us what c ring, sensitive people you are. If you really are, you'll put your efforts and your financial energy toward actually helping the bison you claim to care so much about. Let the federal government know you'd like it to do its job for a change. And consider elping those who are truly trying to help the bison, for example the buffalo preserve established by Native Americans here in Montana. Only when you stop trying to polish your own image and start actually proving you care will anyone actually take you ser ously. |
