[Favourite Gardening Links]

[a photo of a morning glory vine, jpeg, 12k] Here are some of my favourite gardening links. These sites have been chosen for their broad coverage of gardening, valuable content (original articles, pictures, forums, etc.), and especially for their value to the inexperienced gardener. I've organized them according to country of origin, because I find that it's easier to know if information or advice applies to gardeners in my climate if I know where the information comes from. It's just so frustrating to fall in love with the description of a plant only to find that I'd have to live near the equator to grow it. By the way, I'm also quite biased towards sites that support or promote organic gardening techniques. You can see additional lists of links on my "More Gardening Links" page, and my "Recently Submitted Links" page. Submit your link.

Canadian

Canadian Gardening Magazine

Canadian Gardening is one of the finest gardening magazines published in Canada, and this is their web site. They feature articles from the print magazine, and some discussion forums.

Gardeners of the Golden Horseshoe

This site focuses on information of interest to gardeners living in the "Golden Horseshoe" - that area along the north-west coast of LLake Ontario spanning from Hamilton to Oshawa (with Toronto in between). They have a very interesting selection of links - some of which are pleasant surprises. There are also announcements of events, and an small discussion forum area.

GetSet! to Garden

This site has some good links pages. It is based in BC.

I Can Garden

The greatest site I've seen for Canadian gardening. It has a cool layout that uses fun graphics to navigate. It has a lot of articles, many pictures, contests, and even showcases of real people's yards. There is a "chatback" area to ask questions, and get some good hints and tips, among other information (great for the inexperienced gardener who has lots of questions). There are some good reviews of gardening books, magazines, and newsletters. They also have a very extensive list of links to other gardening sites, with the Canadian ones identified as such. I loved the great number of pictures, and plan to visit often during the winter, when I'm in need of some greenery.

Lee Valley Tools and Veritas®

This is the home of my favourite garden tool store. (no, I have no affiliation with them, I just love to page through their mail order catalogue and dream). The site has some information for gardeners, in addition to their sales stuff.

Master Gardeners of Ontario, Inc.

Information about the Master Gardeners program, plus Master Gardeners Hotlines phone numbers - for when you need an answer to that question right now.

[one of the gardens of the Royal Botanical Garden, Hamilton, ON -

The home of The Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton, Ontario. This site has lots of information about what's going on at the gardens, as well as plant information, a gift shop, and lots of pictures.

The Virtual Gardener

This is an on-line gardening magazine, from Victoria, BC. It is published by Clyde Snobelen, an horticultural instructor at Camosun College. It is full of good information, and is updated regularly. The content is slanted towards organic gardening, which makes it particularly valuable, in my opinion.

Please report any broken links to me via e-mail - thanks.
