Shade Garden-Front view 4/98

Spring has sprung - Here is a view of my shade garden in the front yard - looking out to my neighbor's house. The lavender plant in the foreground is Phlox. I just extended the portion in front of the Lilies of the Valley-so I need to fill in there. I have several varieties of Hostas, Ferns and Astilbe in the shadier portions I also have Primrose, Bellflowers, more Phlox, Daylilies, Catmint, Poppy, Lobelia, a Lacecap Hydranga, Coral Bells, some Jack in the Pulpits and a few other things. This is a very large area that I have been working to fill out. Two years ago, when I bought my home, this area was all weeds. The photo doesn't do the Phlox justice - it has been lovely to look at. See my new birdbath-I hope the birds like it as much as I do.

Shade Garden with House 4/98

This view includes my house in the background. You can see that I also have some purple Homestead Verbena up front. I the summer you will see Maryland's State Flower in bloom - the Black-Eyed Susan.

Hillside Garden 4/98

Here is my newest garden (Spring, '98) - the small hill was pretty barren. I view this from my kitchen window, so I tried to make the view nicer. This garden receives morning to early afternoon sun. I put in some Violas, Sage, Jacobs Ladder, Gooseneck Loostrife, Margoram, Forget-Me-Nots, Upright Fuchias, and Sweet Woodruff with Vinca and Sand Dollars in the background. I also have a Christmas Fern hiding behind the tree that I dug from the woods behind the house. This garden needs some time to mature.

A Bearded Iris blooming in my garden.
