These are pictures of the lights along the western coast of Michigan, from St. Joseph to Mackinaw City light and also including some of our favorites in the Upper Peninsula as well.

Gross Point light in Evanston IL. Here is another of my black and white pictures of Gross Point.

All the years we had traveled back and forth to work and not once noticed Chicago Harbor Light. It is located near Navy Pier right off of Lake Shore Drive.

Michigan City light in Michigan City IN - This is the old lighthouse. It is now a museum and gift shop. The old Michigan City Light was replaced by the pierhead light after the marina was built. Here is a picture taken at sunset.

St Joseph North Pier Inner and Outer lighthouses - These two towers act as both range and harbor lights. The outer has a fifth order fresnel lens, while the inner light has a fourth order lens. The inner light was rebuilt in 1907. They mark the entrance to the twin cities of St. Joesph and Benton Harbor.

South Haven South Pier light - marks the entrance to the popular port of South Haven, a lovely town and the home of the big blueberry festival.

Holland Harbor lighthouse - Known as "Big Red", it marks the entrance to the harbor entrance. A most popular Michigan landmark.

Grand Haven lighthouse - First built in 1839, the red square building at the end of the pier houses both a light and a fog signal. Grand Haven was built in 1895, the inner light, which is 51 feet tall, was built in 1905. A long catwalk connects the two lights, as well as to the shore.

Muskegon South pier light stands within the outer breakwater at Muskegon.

White River Light - Situated by the two cities of Whitehall and Montague. Built in 1875, it is 38 feet tall and was decommissioned in 1941 and turned into a museum in 1966, by Fruitland township.

Little Sable Point light - Built in 1874, originally named Petite Pointe Au Sable", it was officially changed in 1910 to it's present name. It is the tallest of the lights on the Lake Michigan coastline at 115 feet tall.

Ludington North Pier Head light - An ideal light for any photographer, it is a great place to walk out to and watch the beautiful Michigan sunsets.

Big Sable Point - Built in 1867, the light identified the most direct route to and from the Port of Chicago. By 1900, deterioration required a steel sleeve be constructed around the original tower.Big Sable Light The black and white daymark was added in 1989.

Manistee North Pierhead light stands at the end of the north pier at Manistee and is one of the four West Michigan lights with a remaining catwalk.

Frankfort North Breakwater light Marks entrance to harbor for fishing boats at Frankfort. Another shot of Frankfort North Breakwater light taken this time with our video camera.

Point Betsie light - Built in 1858, it was the last light to be maintained by a light keeper on the Michigan coastline.Betsie close-up It has a 37 foot tower attached to the keepers house. It is most likely the most photographed light along the entire Lake Michigan coastline.

Old Mission Point light was built in 1870 and stands on the 45th Parallel, halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. Located at tip of Old Mission peninsula.

Charlevoix is on the south pier of the Charlevoix harbor and serves pleasure craft and commercial ferry service to and from Beaver Island.

Grand Traverse

St. Helena is an island located near the Mackinaw Bridge and the lighthouse holds that same name. It is currently being restored by the Great Lakes lighthouse Keepers Association.

Seul Choix Point - Built in 1892-1895, this harbor of refuge, named by the French means "only choice". It is 78 feet 9 inches tall and powered now by an airport beacon.
